our correspondent john kay has been traveling on the ship. he said this report. -- he had this report. >> after a week at sea, passengers on board the m.s. reached dry land. arriving in halifax, nova scotia last night, another place forever linked with the titanic tragedy in the days after the disaster, boats from the canadian port headed into the atlantic to recover bodies. this ship alone found more than 300. they were brought back to halifax, a city stunned by the scale of the loss. public buildings became temporary morgues. funeral directors overwhelmed. now the grave yards will be visited by relevant who is have crossed the atlantic to mark this event. relatives like michael, whose great great grandfather went down with the ship. his body was buried in halifax and now his deden dents can pay their respects. >> we are direct descendents. it is a direct line. it's nice to carry on the sentiment and we do not forget the loss that was on the titanic. >> for some of these passengers, another poignant stop on a very emotional journey. and afte

as ucla and masters from university of florida where he studied under the late john kay mahan. in 1970s he was in the navy, navy officer and first ensign ever to lecture at the naval war college in new port, rhode island. after his naval service he remained at the war college as a civilian professor of strategy from '74 to '75. he's an award winning author of 12 books, maybe more by now, but who's counting, right? editor of several others. and has written over 100 articles in professional journals and popular magazines. from 2005 to 2007, he lived here too. he was the chief historian for the u.s.s. monitor center here at mariners museum and helped us get everything right. so if something you see is right out there and you love it. thank craig for it. because he helped us out with that a lot and he helped oversee the promotion of it as well. traveling around the country. telling the story of the u.s.s. monitor to all who would listen. as i said, even though he thought he'd retired you can't keep him still. he returned to the u.s. naval academy for this academic year, class of 19
