first there is meeting underway, very important meeting with people, kevin mccarthy, steny hoyer, john corbyn and dick durbin, lead negotiator for democrats out of senate. they are working specifically on this daca issue. now republicans insist it will not be part of a continuing resolution to keep the government funded past january 19th. the democrats are saying it has to be. so you get into this kind of push, push, push. no one is giving just yet. here is what we herd from kevin mccarthy just before the meeting began? >> dealing with daca. dealing about border security. dealing with chain migration. then dealing about the lottery system. those are the four elements and principles what we all agreed to in that room, after, at the end of the meeting that is where we would have our focus. >> you have got senator schumer representing the democrats you have to do at least daca portion as part of a comprehensive bill or it will never get done because bills on immigration die in the house. here is what schumer had to say this morning on the floor of the senate. >> the house has been a grave

kevin mccarthy, dick durbin, john cornyn. >> correct. >> let me ask you this. why not -- if the president wants funding for 700 miles more fence in exchange for daca, why -- how is that not like a doable deal? just straight up. >> look, we don't think the wall works. we don't think it is a good economic investment and as a matter of fact, general kelly did, in fact, make comments on that. where he said it may not be the wall that makes us security. it may be some other things. but he clearly made it -- made it clear the president was not talking about 2,000 miles of wall, talking maybe 700 miles of wall. the response to that of course is let's get a study from the department of homeland security and experts as to what is, in fact, needed. i think we certainly could agree to that. that would be i think a positive way forward. so that -- the wall -- >> it is probably not -- >> we don't think -- >> it may not be. but then maybe it is too much for us and as you pointed out, the legislative process is compromised. so we may have to take something and he may have to

lawmakers, kevin mccarthy, dick durbin, john corbin, steny hoyer among the group that would sit down today behind closed doors on capitol hill with administration officials and start to go through all of that. coming out of that meeting at the white house yesterday, there was considerable statements, rosy outlooks of claims of progress made, but aides here tell us on capitol hill that there is considerable amount of this that needs to be sorted out. a lot of real questions and clarity over the actual policy that needs to get written. a huge divide between both sides. so certainly, behind the scenes, it's not as optimistic as those are saying in front of tv cameras. and no doubt, a huge new dynamic thrown into all of this today is that federal court ruling. how will this impact the daca talks? at this point, immigration advocates are worried that it could undercut the pressure for these negotiations to push forward. but both sides, at least for now, john and poppy, are saying that it won't slow things down, so we'll see, as these negotiations tick on. >> all right, sunlen, thank you v

there is a briefing that john kelly, white house chief of staff and homeland security secretary knenielsen are doing the number 2s. deputies kevinbin and hoyer tomorrow. and tuesday becomes state of the union and the republicans leave town early wednesday for their annual issues retreat, all the way down in west virginia. so, we come back next monday, we have a couple days to finish this. >> is your agreement -- is your assessment, does it lineup with what the political play book is speculating, we're going to be doing this in the summer? >> i think it at least is going to have to go all the way through the month of february into early march to try to get -- there's just too many different issues here, too many different things to tie up and they have too many other little things. there's a democratic retreat the week after next. so, there are really only a couple of days to try and knock this up -- >> knock out an issue that has tied up the government and our congress for years and years? >> yes. >> little success. i want to talk about the politics of this quickly because the hosts of pod save america who took an active role le
