john king, thanks. we'll be following this throughout the broadcast over the next two hours and certainly well into the night, as long as it takes for that. it is nothing compared to how long we've all been waiting for some other important answers, dating back to the last big election night. >> does president trump believe that the russian government interfered in the 2016 elections? >> i think i've not sat down and talked to him about that specific thing. we've been dealing with a lot of other issues. >> generally speaking, this conversation about russian interference in our elections, there's 16 intelligence agencies that say that they did. the former fbi director -- >> i understand. i've seen the reports. >> does the president share those views? >> i have not sat down and asked him about specific reaction to them. so i would be glad to touch base and get back to you. >> that was sean spicer today, his first time back in a while. not his first time uttering those words. keeping them honest, this isn't

let's go to john king. what are you looking at, john. >> anderson, look at the map right now. jon ossoff ahead 51-49. about half of the expected vote is in. that's the full district. let me break it down by county. i want to pull this out to make ate little bit bigger. the congressional district is not all three of these counties. it's up here in the northern part of these -- northern part of fulton county. this is cobb and this is dekalb. the biggest area for jon ossoff, one of the reasons he has the lead at the moment narrowly is because he's running it up, as expect. now we have not only early vote, but some votes are coming in, 51-49 in dekalb county. the most democratic area of the district. he needs to keep the numbers in the ballpark of something like that, run up the vote total here to help him over here, where you see karen handel holding. this number has been pretty consistent all night long, a 20-point lead, 60-40 in the most conservative part of the district, the northern county of cobb county and the most populist county is the northern part of fulton county. kare

the magic wall now, before we get to reporters, magic wall, john king, take us through the numbers here. what happened? >> take a look. this is georgia's 6th congress did district. 352-48 is the count as we speak. we've called the race for the republican karen handel. this is the district when you look at the entirety of it, i want to show you the district by counties. as a stretch this out, i want to draw a line. the district is in the northern part of these counties here. the northern part of fulton county which contains atlanta but the atlanta is south of the district. cobb county and dekalb county, three counties make up this district. why the karen handel is the winner, number one, start with the blue. jon ossoff did what he needed to do in decal can be county. he needed to run it up, 5-42 at the current vote count. that's what he needed to do. here is the giant problem for jon ossoff. starting here in cobb county. this number, this is the number democrats will look at. both pares in this race said for jon ossoff to win this race tonight, he needed to to be around 43% in the most r

but his behavior is raising so many questions that -- >> hovering overall of this, john king, is thefact that the president really hated the fact that sessions recused himself. he saw that as a sign of weakness and also sees that as opening the door for a special counsel robert mueller and you don't know where that investigation is going to go. >> and it comes back to an issue of control. the president was the ceo and when he said this, do this, it got done. he's mad at jeff sessionses a a we've lost control. those are the questions and it's just a person fall frustration and reaction because it is impeding his agenda in washington or was it something more nefarious. those are the big questions. and just quickly to david's point, if the attorney general just didn't disclose these things because they are stubborn and they have to be pushed for transparency, that's very different. this is a chance for the attorney general to lay it out there. >> the first time we'll hear directly from him and all of these sensitive issues. the hearing room is filling up. the photographers are there as

. >> john king, you and i have covered sessions for a long time. this is a side of him we hadn't often seen how angry he would get, visibly shaken at times. at one time saying these allegations against him are appalling and detestable lies. >> a visceral anger at some of his former colleagues or at least using them as the platform of news reports. let's draw a line at 2016 and 2017, essentially draw a lane campaign and transition versus administration. i think jeff sessions unless facts surface to the contrary helped himself quite a bit and rebutted the argument that he was somehow involved in any collusion with the russians. yes, gloria said he didn't have the exact details about what might have happened down pat but he said if i saw the russian ambassador it was to say hello, howry, not a meeting about we're linking up the campaign and colluding. i think he answered that pretty emphatically and passionately as a challenge of his trustworthiness and personal integrity and essentially saying go away and unless any evidence surfaces to the contrary
