, between secretary pompeo and national security adviser john bolton when it comes to how they deal with president trump. pompeo has been in lock step. when the president decides he wants to do something, pompeo goes forth with that. an example of that is when it comes to north korea, right? we have secretary pompeo who has been leading the negotiations with north korea which have now hit a standstill. we know that pompeo is not someone who necessarily is all on board for that, but he has continued to push for it. on the other hand, we have national security adviser john bolton who was publicly not in favor of what the president was doing here. these grand bargains that president trump wanted to push forth, john bolton was not always such a fan of. that also happens when it comes to iran, president trump wanting to meet with rouhani, bolton not thinking it's a great idea. so there has been division time and time again between the president and bolton and time and time again between pompeo and bolton. >> kylie, thank you so much. kaitlan, thank you at the white house for us. i want to talk now with matt lewis, senior columnist a

john meacham was referring to in our own time. i think civil war americans have their own echo chambers. they were locked in their own worlds, reading negative portrayals of the other side. that is what created the sense of being under threat from the other side that became so consequential. you have to get into the minds of the actors, the people who caused the civil war in order to understand how things spiraled in the direction of conflict. and i think that can be really difficult in many ways to do in a museum exhibit. but what i have learned from working with the museum staff, the professionals, is that they know how to say a lot with a little. it is kind of the opposite of some college professors, i think. [applause] -- [laughter] they can deploy just the right quotations, the right personal stories, the right details to reveal this kaleidoscope of different perspectives and opinions and ideas of people who lived through the 1850's and into the civil war. they also had to deploy the right artifacts, i think, to allow visitors to connect to this history in new kinds of ways. that's what i am going t

locked and loaded response. what do you make of that now also keeping in mind that you've got john bolton who is more of the hawkn the administration, he's no longer in the picture, but the president still using very much hawkish language? >> when i read that tweet it was very reminiscent of the tweet he sent earlier this year right before he called off a strike against iran oil or energy facilities this year. it was very reminiscent of the language he has used before, and it shows he has continued to be hawkish on this issue. it's interesting how this has very much played out in the past couple of days or the past week. president trump was considering possibly sitting down with iranian president rouhani. we saw just leave of absence week secretary of state mike pompeo, mike pompeo, steve mnuchin said president trump would be willing to move towards that and sit down with him in the near future. president trump is appearing to back off that a little bit saying that he won't sit down under no conditions. so i think that this kind of puts a bit of a wrench in the peace process or the somehow some kind of talks bet
