john boehner get 217 votes for the new bill that's going to come about? they've been whipping it hard, a team effort. he and top depend i eric cantor, kitchen mccarthy they're still not there jet as we speak. if they don't get too 217 and pass something out of the house with solely republican finger pripts, john boehner has lost all leverage with negotiations, and would effectively have to work out some compromise with them. the idea now is this will pass through the house on thursday, it will go to the senate, it most likely will not pass there, because reid says he's going to blockade it. there would be some sort of amendment attached this weekend, ultimately that will be the final bill that alleviates the united states from this debt crisis and does not allowç us but still a long way to go. this is the most amazing -- it's full of high drama, tons of nuance, you don't know what's going to happen next, and quite frankly nobody in this building knows what will happen next. the uncertainty is now reflected in the markets. lowest in history against the swiss franc, the dow has dropping, so a lot of consternation. >> the bond market is entirely intac

john boehner's deficit reduction bill that would also increase the debt ceiling. house republican whip kevin mccarthyust sent out a message saying, quote, members are advised that there will be no votes in the house tonight. we apologize for the late notice. thank you for bearing with us. and have a good night. republican leadership is not going to have a good night. they had planned for this vote to happen, as i said, five hours ago, but when speaker boehner realized they didn't have the votes to pass that bill, the vote was delayed. that's a standard procedure in the house when you don't have the votes, just delay the vote. reports from capitol hill say as many as 26 or 28 members of the republican house said they still weren't voting for that plan. speaker boehner could lost as many as 24 votes. the house gop leadership will now make changes to the bill. house rules committee will have an emergency meeting tonight. the bill will be changed, and speaker boehner will try again tomorrow. earlier tonight senator john mccain said what this vote means for house speaker john boehner. >> this is really hi

john boehner could not get the tea partiers together. there will not be a vote. that announcement just coming moments ago from the gop whip in the house. congressman mccarthynbc's luke russert is on capitol hill. luke, the speaker of the house went into caucus yesterday and told everybody to get in line. it didn't happen. how did it come down tonight? >> an absolutely real shocker out of washington, ed. there's a lot of confidence in the gop leadership staff this morning even saying by the time the night is over we'll have passed two bills out of the house that have raised the debt limit. well, that's just not the case. around 6:00 this bill was pulled. it was clear they didn't have the votes. there were rumors they were two votes away. they became six votes and then 10 and 12. the number is around there. but this is a huge setback because it shows that john boehner, as of right now, cannot pass a bill through the house of representatives to raise the debt limit that every single democrat in the house and in the united states senate has said they are against. this is clearly a republican bill despite the fact that republicans said it was drawn up in a bipa

john is the speaker of the house, he's a republican and so, this is a slightly skewed question. >> skewed question. all right, that wasn't the only member of the house leadership to tweet. mccarthytweeted gop has a plan for job growth, what is your economic plan, apparently talking to the president. 798 days, still no budget from the dems. and house budget committee chairman paul ryan put up several tweets, even challenged the president, saying americans deserve a real debate, you pick when and where. so that sounded sort of like calling him out. republicans getting all excited. i think they were sort of egged on by john boehner a little bit. >> i think americans deserve some real specifics. and on both sides, you get -- they want to do this but they don't tell you how to get all that done. we have to wait for that. >> obviously the white house is looking at this like it's a big election and we're going to have issues with social media so we're going to get onboard quickly. the vice president did open a twitter account, an official twitter account. the white house announced on july 4 he opened this. and as of just very recently, i'm told, he had three tweets. three whole tweets
