the white house is sending some officials, likely john kelly and martin short up to capitol hill for a meeting that kevin mccarthy will be holding along with senator john cornyn, dick durbin and steny hoyer. the while house is hopefully an agreement on daca. on a government shut down, white house sources optimistic that they can get a continuing resolution by the deadline on friday the 19th. they believe that the democratic caucus cannot stand together to shut down the government over daca. so they believe there will be a continuing resolution. still negotiations over daca and getting a budget deal because there's a lot of insistence that they be tied together will be difficult. when the president gets home from mar-a-largo tonight, trace, he's got a very difficult week ahead of him, no question. >> indeed he does. john roberts live for us. team fox coverage continues on the push to reach a deal on immigration and avoid a government shut down this weekend. adam shapiro is live on capitol hill. republicans can't pass a funding bill without the democrats clearly. >> it's looking that way. you heard john roberts des

duke durbin, john cornyn, stenny hoyer, kevin mccarthy, to figure out the next steps in the daca program. so the democrats that are in theory invited to this right now are not confirming that it is happening. they are essentially indicating to us that the ongoing talks are really where the focus should be. and they don't understand why this last-minute wrench is being thrown in to the conversation. so i am not sure if i would read too much into that meeting at this point. we hope to know more in the next couple of hours about what that will mean here. but i think the confusion potentially stems from conservative republicans. we talked to mark meadows yesterday on capitol hill with the meeting going on, and he said the idea that you do a two-step approach to do daca and a comprehensive bill is a total non-starter. conservatives on the hill do not want to start talking about comprehensive immigration refomplt ar reform. and that was not part of the conversation until the president threw it out at that meeting. so speaker paul ryan is potentialfully in a difficult s with his caucus. that sa

lawmakers, kevin mccarthy, dick durbin, john corbin, steny hoyer among the group that would sit down today behind closed doors on capitol hill with administration officials and start to go through all of that. coming out of that meeting at the white house yesterday, there was considerable statements, rosy outlooks of claims of progress made, but aides here tell us on capitol hill that there is considerable amount of this that needs to be sorted out. a lot of real questions and clarity over the actual policy that needs to get written. a huge divide between both sides. so certainly, behind the scenes, it's not as optimistic as those are saying in front of tv cameras. and no doubt, a huge new dynamic thrown into all of this today is that federal court ruling. how will this impact the daca talks? at this point, immigration advocates are worried that it could undercut the pressure for these negotiations to push forward. but both sides, at least for now, john and poppy, are saying that it won't slow things down, so we'll see, as these negotiations tick on. >> all right, sunlen, thank you v

you look at the fact the number two leader, dick durbin, john cornyn in the senate and house majority leader kevin mccarthyyer for the democrats met earlier today to hammer out some kind of deal on daca. be that perhaps a vote, a promised vote in the senate. you know, that could clear the path for a number of democrats who says -- and including republicans who said that's an issue. also there's another problem here. and this is something that not a lot of people are talking about. the big deal is once you get to that four weeks, what happens. and that's because the members who are negotiating a budget deal are trying to find caps for defense spending and domestic spending. and that's the real problem. they haven't been able to agree on a number basically across the board that will plus up domestic, plus up military spending. until they get those numbers straight, they can't move on government funding. and that's really what's holding things up. i think once you actually get a number for domestic and military spending over the next two years, then i think the chips will begin to fall into place. >> molly ho
