joining us now is entertainment jushlist john murray. e to have you here been. >> good morning, gary. >> are people starting to, like, just get over this talent contest? >> well, it seems to be the case. folks are tuning out, and surprisingly so now, "the voice" is actually beating it in the ratings. it's not even just beating it in overall ratings, but it's out performing it in key demographics. it seems like folks are bored with "american idol." >> how is "the voice" besting "american idol?" how is that happening, with your expertise? >> i think "the voice" is focused on talent. you don't see the long lines. you don't see the people wearing the costumes who can't sing. if "american idol" wants to survive -- and i really think it's run its course -- it has to get back to the singing. i suggest they do an all-star sing-in. bring all-star season. bring back some of the previous contestants from the past that didn't win. super-size the prizes and try it again. >> super-size the prizes. sounds very fast food-ish of you, john. meanwhile, on t

let me bring in entertainment journalist john murray. john, welcome to the show this morning.your take on this whole thing? do you think it's too early? should she be talking at this point? >> you know, randy, grieving the loss of a loved one is an individual process, and so i think everyone comes to terms on their own basis. you know, i never thought i would be quoting latoya jackson, but i saw her on "the talk" recently, and she referenced michael jackson's kids, and she said they faced similar criticism when they had them talk to oprah winfrey, but she says the kids processed his death more quickly. they ultimately helped the adults in his family cope with his death as well. >> what about houston's sister? she also talked with oprah winfrey. let's listen to that, and then i want to ask you about that interview. >> were you afraid that she would be gone too soon? >> if things hadn't changed, but things were changing. it wasn't about substance abuse or anything like that relative to the latter days or anything like that. i think it was just more of lifestyle. i was afraid for

. >> i want to bring in entertainment reporter john murray from washington. the kids, and i know we're going to go there in a second. but as i mentioned, it's been four years since the split. why is this feud resurfacing now? he said, she wants publicity. do we know if that's really the case? >> i don't believe that is the case. here's the deal. she said that she filed this suit against him because he was sending inflammatory e-mails, which is a violation of their divorce decree. and based on something he said about her in public, i kind of agree with her. she called him a maniac, a second right celebrity and he said this in public. imagine what he could be saying in e-mails, brooke. >> they have these two children. do we know how old the kids are? >> they're teenagers, 16 and 18. which means they're on social media, turning on the news. they're seeing their parents fight this way. we know that reality tv typically breaks up a couple. maybe it will help this one get back together and mend their family affairs. >> what happens next, john? who becomes the bigger

john ralston. as our own mark murray. mark, let's talk about how this changes the dynamic with jeb bush coming out to give his endorsement to mitt romney. it answers a lot of questions about where this race is going. >> thomas, i'm not sure it changes the dynamic. but it's almost a cherry on top of his victory in illinois last night, very good news for the mitt romney campaign. but as alice was just mentioning to you, mitt romney hasn't had a problem with the republican establishment. they've been behind him. important to note that jeb bush's father has already endorsed mitt romney. but i was actually struck by jeb bush's statement where he said that it's time for the republican party to unite around mitt romney. as we've seen, polls have shown that this republican primary season has taken a toll on its candidates, including romney. romney only has about $7 million in the bank. so you're seeing people saying, look, it's time to end this race. let's go to the general election. >> cherry on top, as you're saying. politico r

murray. have you ever met any of these people and been star strucked? >> totally. i went to john'sirthday because my friend had put him in a movie. and i just kind of sat in the corner blubbering most of the time. and then i did a movie with steve martin last summer that came and went. but it was like i had won a prize where i got to be with steve martin. >> was he as you had imagined? >> he was that and more so. he's the renaissance man. >> sure. he's so smart. >> and he's so smart but he actually listens to what you're saying which is rare when you meet really sometimes really big famous people. sometimes not. but just listened and really was very thoughtful and then, of course, was incredibly funny. >> are your kids funny? >> yes, i think. the 7-year-old, whenever i tell a joke to him he will kind of stop and goes, okay, daddy. no jokes for a week. and then he'll go back to what he's doing. >> that is very good. >> so he tells me, no jokes for an entire year now. and then the 4-year-old is a total ham and will do anything he can to make you laugh and bite you. he will walk up to
