thank you so much, natasha. john. >>> let's dig deeper now into the israeli incursion into gaza.o far it has happened only in the north here. with us now is cnn military analyst, a former nato supreme ally commander, wesley clark. we can zoom in here, and we have a sense that the israeli forces are moving in three directions. from here, the north, you know, the northern corner, the other northern corner, and from the south here, somewhat toward fwaa city. what do you see happening here? >> we're moving toward the center of gravity as they see it of hamas, and they're moving very deliberately. they're moving with full security. they're drawing the resistance into them. they're forcing hamas to maneuver. they're picking up an intelligence from that maneuver and using it for targeting and we know from previous inc incursions, john, that there is -- there is a big tunnel network under northern gaza. they're moving in where they can get at the tunnels, but they also have to be on the rooftops. >> so axios is estimating that there are some 20,000 israeli troops now inside gaza. we have

. >> natasha, thanks for the reporting. john? >>> all right. with us now is retired u.s. army major mike lyons. major, another reason the u.s. may be pushing israel to delay -- you can see israel on the map right here -- is so the u.s. can have more time to protect u.s. interests, u.s. troops in the region. where are those u.s. troops? >> u.s. troops currently in the read sea on the destroyer and also we have ground troops inside of syria protecting some of our oil and also in the northern part of iraq. we've seen them come under attack. we've had to protect them, the drones -- the iranians are sending drones out to those so they're fighting back. that's why you're seeing the carrier strike groups and making sure the u.s. troops are safe. >> we have a u.s. carrier strike group, two headed right there and right there in the mediterranean. another development overnight we learned there has been israeli raids, direct confrontation between israelis and hamas inside gaza right around here, this is a kibbutz and here in khan yunis. somewhere between here there is that skirmish.

natasha bertrand just got that information. what weapons are we talking about exactly here, and what are officials telling you? >> reporter: yeah, john these are weapons that have been seized by the u.s. navy in the middle east that have been bound primarily from iran to yemen to help support the fight there. and these are weapons that are primarily what have been seized from the u.s. navy are assault rifles and ammunition, as well as some other kinds of larger weaponry. however, it's unclear exactly at this point what the united states is going to be sending to ukraine, but this could really make an impact on the battlefield right now, of course, as ukraine struggles with some critical supply shortages of weaponry, of ammunition, the u.s., to put it in perspective has seized thousands and thousands of assault rifle from the iranians, thousands and thousands of rounds of ammunition, so even a fraction of this going to the ukrainians could really make a huge difference, and we are told that this decision has been approved. central command is going to be announcing it as soon as this week, and look, this could really drive a wedge betw

natasha bertrand live at the pentagon with the very latest on this. what exactly are they advising, particularly when it comes to a possible ground invasion? >> well, johnsing israel to have a very clear strategy and one that doesn't get them bogged down in a long-term kind of occupation of the gaza strip. so what they have been telling thees r the israelis is to avoid the street by street, house by house fighting like the u.s. did against insurgents in iraq in 2004 in fallujah and focus precision air strikes and special operations raids to try to target some of these senior hamas figures that israel s said it wants to eliminate in order to degrade the organization as a whole. the message has been tried to steer them away from a large-scale, ground incursion that does not have very clear military objectives and towards something that is more precise and more well thought out in terms of not only the strategy to getting these hamas figures, but also an exit plan. that is one of the key messages that they've sought to drive home from the israel sis learn from our mistakes and have a governance plan in place for gaza because hamas right now is in control o
