cnn's john newsom is at the daytona 500, witnessed yesterday 'crash. there, and what is likely to happen differently on the track as a result of yesterday's crash now? >> reporter: fred as we mentioned, i'm here at the daytona 500. i was here yesterday for the saturday race. in the final 30 lapse, there were two significant wrecks definitely newsworthy the second of which involved kyle busch. in the last final lapse, kyle was on turn -- turning into turn one, and there were a couple cars in a wreck, as they were aggressively trying to position for position one, and he slid into the infield wall a concrete wall and hit it very, very heart. i tacked to a number of people here and many of whom said it was the hardest hit that they have seen. busch was taken to the medical center whether they dugged him with a compound fracture of the right lower mid and mid fracture of his left foot so both legs were involved. he underwent surgery last night and will be out indefinitely. the president of daytona international speedway said yesterday that the track failed
