or john -- john o'hara, make yourself do things you don't want to do. and i do live in the woods in maine, and one thing that i didn't really want to do was -- come -- for me, to come out with this book when it came out. so, when the time came for me that go on the road and do some of the promoting of the book and talking about the book, i went back to some of those letters and read them and it said, do things you don't want to do, do the right thing. make yourself ... c-span: why didn't you want to do it this time? >> guest: i just didn't. i'm -- i'm not really a public person. i never have been. it wasn't -- a lot of times i think people are so excited for the book to come out that they can go out and talk about it. and i was thrilled that the book was out, but i wasn't -- wasn't on the promoting side of it. c-span: did you have to, as a part of your deal with doubleday, did you have to do so many book appearances? >> guest: i don't know. i had to do some. i didn't get to that point. i just took myself in hand and said, ok, you're going to do it. c-sp
