oakland planning to go on strike after days with negotiation. the union announced a plan to strike tonight. if there is no deal, the walkout starts thursday. tim johns is in the newsroom and with a month left on the school year, parents are split on this. tim: if this strike goes through, it seems like it will divide some members of the community. while there were some parents that showed up in support this afternoon, others petitioned for those teachers to continue negotiating. >> we are going to strike over the unfair labor practice. tim: the clock is ticking over a likely strike by oakland teachers. if they cannot reach a deal by thursday, 3000 union members will go on strike. >> we have done everything we can to avert this strike. the district has failed our students and the time for us to act is now. tim: teachers are asking for a 23 percent pay raise across the board. that would put them roughly in line with other educators in the area. and while, the district has offered a 22% raise for more senior educators verse, but a lower percentage for those with less experience. >> we stand with our teachers. it hurts us to see this happen to our teach
