john deutsch was on the board of citicorp, and when john reed and sandy weill ultimately fought with each other over who would control citigroup in the year 2000, john deutsch was a supporter of john reed. but sandy won. c-span: which person in this picture is john reed, the one right there? >> guest: yes, that one. c-span: and where is he today? >> guest: he's very happy out of the company. i mean, he lost a bruising battle to sandy. there was a boardroom showdown in 2000, and he lost. he thought that sandy had promised the two of them would merge their companies and leave together. john reed was ready to retire and sandy wasn't. sandy outmaneuvered him the entire time. john reed today has a house in the south of france, and he teaches some and speaks, and he's very happy. he sold citigroup stock when it was very high, and he's a happy man not worrying with the latest stock gyrations and what the market expects citi to do. c-span: how old is sandy weill? >> guest: sandy just turned 70 march 16th. c-span: and his title today? >> guest: he's chairman and ceo of citigroup, and he has n

we have john reed, defense air and space reporter.ed like boeing was going to win this in a wake walk. what are boeing's concerns and is it serious not bidding for this contract? >> i think boeing is serious about weighing all of its options and doing a cost benefit analysis. they're considering what it would cost to bid and lose and then be undercut by eads. >> and that's happened on commercial markets where eads competed the a-330 which is larger on the 767 and won on price. are they concerned about the fixed price long term nature of the contract? >> both parties are concerned about that but i think they can move beyond that. at this point it is boeing really concerned about are they going to be able to compete on price? >> and to be able to win it. what is the pentagon been saying? the last time around the pentagon's attitude said, hey, northrup grumman, eads, if you don't want to bid, that's okay, we're okay with boeing. what is the pentagon saying now. >> so far the pentagon is quiet about this issue. i talked to a few people on

letter was signed by myself, senator johnson, senator reid, -- senator reed, senator schumer, senator menendez, senator brown, and john kerry of massachusetts. those are just three pieces of correspondence, mr. president, going back four year ago in trying to get some attention to the predatory lending practice that's were going on. and we acted in 2006, or even in 2007. we would not even be close to the disastrous effects that have occurred with seven million homes lost, four million today under water in the country, in very danger of falling into foreclosure. 250,000, a quarter of a million homes in the first three months of this year have been seized in foreclosure proceedings. and here were three pieces of lengthy correspondence signed in one case on a bipartisan basis in 2006. and 2007, unfortunately, at a partisan basis. not because we didn't seek additional signatures on the letter. to highlight the importance of underwriting standards and the need to step up. i also want to add at this point, if i can, mr. president, a -- a letter from the national association of realtors expressing strong opposition to the co
