john: that comes across very clearly in the chapter on the political operative reed.n't know how many times i've heard him say but we need to win. are you optimistic that evangelicals can engage deeply in the way you are describing with the who, what, how and so forth? i was really struck, probably in my own of the woods in pennsylvania, by this pastor you interviewed who prayed at a doug mastriano rally, a christian nationalist gubernatorial candidate who lost in 2022 for the governorship. he seemed to have no clue what he was getting into when he was praying for doug mastriano at a rally, or at least praying at the rally. he seemed completely apolitical, to have no interest in thinking deeply about how faith informs politics. i was also thinking, this interview you had with the yale theologian, who said part of the problem in the evangelical church is the "loss of educated, thoughtful readership." i'm sure you are familiar, it's about 30 years old, the book, "the scandal of the evangelical mind." what hope do you have for evangelicals to engage thoughtfully and deep
