robinson. meetist -- meteorologist john collins is here with the latest. >> keend a meth messy morning this mong -- kind of a messy morning this morning. we have had 1 to 2 inches of snow overnight. most of that around the metropolitan area of baltimore and switched over to freezing drizzle. in some cases, freezing rain. that's more dangerous than the snow. 1 to 2 inches of snow is manageable. at the moment, the bulk of at least one heavy wave of precipitation is out. i circled baltimore and the beltway area to give you a reference point on the map. there is an area of moisture coming in from the west. there is a lot of stuff coming down in west virginia now. we are not done by any stretch of the imagination. we have just backed off a bit here. temperatures at the surface at ground level below freezing. mostly in the upper 20's. a few thousand feet up, readings at or above freezing. most of this moisture is coming down as liquid and then freezing on contact with the surface. the car, the sidewalk that hasn't been treated with ice or the streets as well. >> so it is -- the biggest hazard is slipp

robinson. the snow is just beginning. meteorologist john collins is here with the latest. depending on where you were when you came in -- >> right, we sperpsed freezing rain here. i was only on the road for 10 minutes. that's what we're getting. surfaces that are cold. here in the city, the farther north we go, it is colder. especially higher up. so there is still snow falling north and northeast of us. take a look at the radar. to give you a quick overview of how the storm is doing, there is a break to the west for a while. down in the mountains of west virginia and virginia, there is quite a bit of moisture falling, and that is falling into cold air. the radar is indicating it is cold air. in the valley, the air is quite cold. that will be freezing on contact. in the baltimore area, the northeast corner of the state is still getting precipitation in the form of freezing drizzle and snow. basically in the area, we had 1 to 2 inches of snow. snow is not the problem as much as slippery surfaces. the roads i drove on have all been treated to some degree and are slushy. i am

robinson. let's get the latest on the weather with john., it is a good-sized storm. it reaches from the gulf coast region up to new england this morning. the colder part of it is snow. the warmer part, as you see in the greens and yellows is rain. there could be strong thunderstorms down to our south. in south carolina, you get up to our part of the world, and we're sitting on temperatures verging on freezing. so we have had some snow overnight. an inch and a half on tv hill. a little over an inch in some areas. freezing drizzle and freezing rain. now, in addition to the inch or two of snow that we got around the area, we are getting this crust of ice that's developped on everything. either on top of the snow. if you did take your car out earlier, will you have to scrape the windshield. streets that have not been scraped, they can be slippery. that's the blue shaded area. the purple shaded area further west. pennsylvania and west virginia, a winter storm warning. nonetheless, slippery conditions. the big deal today, we'll talk more about th
