john boehner and paul ryan have already pounced on those numbers.al are these numbers for republicans, jerry? >> i don't think it's that big of a deal in the larger scheme of things. if it's a big deal, it's just because of the kind of politics and daily arguments about the affordable care act if you can find something -- if you're a republican and can find something negative to throw at it, you're going to do so and this looks like that. what actually the report says is that if you look at the broader economy, the cbo is not that bullish on future growth rate. things are going to improve but they are going to improve slower than they thought. the affordable care act is not implicated in that part of the report. they are mushing it together. there is a reason to suspect that some people may work less too avoid losing subsidies as part of the aca. it's very theer receiptical and i'm not sure the cbo is right about that. >> we always appreciate your insight. >> my pleasure. >> coming up, an american drug story, there is no shortage of debate about the

ryan we played talking about this. there is a heritage report from the john mccain health care plan under the section of "breaking job lock." under the mccain plan, which links tax breaks directly to individuals instead of their place of work, individuals would no longer feel obligated to stay with their employers. that's what the affordable health care act does. to talk about this politically, i think the thinking yesterday was, this is going to be a huge liability for democrats, and it could be. it also shows, again, hypocracy. >> the big debate was whether or not to extend long-term unemployment insurance. in the case of federal unemployment insurance, you have people giving up out of frustration because they can't find a job. one way to address this easily without repealing obamacare would be to extend federal unemployment insurance so you can keep some of these people in the labor force. but the honest debate isn't always the one that takes place in washington. >> i'm sure that house republicans will snap into action once they get josh's argument there. go ahead, alex. >> the cbo report, it's not all filled with sort

as recently as 2008 and 2009 during the campaign of 2008 john mccain, the heritage foundation and as recently as 2012 campaign people like paul ryan were arguing about something called job lock. they were touting this idea that americans are trapped in jobs they would rather retire from and start a business or they would rather retire and go out and do fishing or do something else other than being trapped in a job they don't want because they are constricted in health care. john mccain was suggesting tying health care to you and not your job. that was a republican idea. now the very idea that you can look up any american can google these guys health care plans and ideas and are saying the opposite. now they are saying that they are in favor of job lock and people being stuck in their jobs rather than being able to be portable. what the affordable care act has done is make your health care portable and say now my health care is tied to me. i don't have to be stuck working in this job i don't want to add more hours to it because i need my health care. that used to be something republicans were for. they reversed position because oba

what you heard from paul ryan today and what you have been hearing consistently from john boehner is we're not going to accept the senate version. this version is smaller in scope. surprisingly and smartly this week, democrats have said they're open to the new version, which does not include citizenship, which is a very tough bill. it's piecemeal, not a big bill like the senate. this is what it's going to be. >> it does appear that the president is willing to put off citizenship not forever but for an awful long time. can he hold on to his base if he does that? >> no, i don't think so. i don't think you can create two classes of citizens, one with legal status and the right to vote and the other without. the democrats are going to have to look at the so-called piecemeal approach that the republicans are outlined, the five-step program, whatever they want to call it, in their recovery mode now to try to get the latino vote back. but the democrats say compromise reform is the way to go. and look at the piecemeal approaches and if that's one way to move the ball. >> i'm an immigrant. i'
