ktvu's john sasaki has been talking with investigators today who say they found evidence the girls were experimenting with alcohol. john? >> reporter: here at the sheriff's office, investigators believe they know what caused a girl to die. alcohol was like 3 blame. a tragic death that taught her friends a terrible lesson. daniel misses her best friend takeimi rao. >> have fun, stuff, be safe about it, of course, but just like -- we never know what will happen. >> harsh reality to learn. she learned it after hearing takeimi rao died at her house. daniel was increted but couldn't go. three other girls did and all got sick after consumer alcohol and soda. takeimi rao never woke up. >> there is poisoning, other things that could occur. we are looking at all of that. >> investigators found a vodka bottle in the house but don't know where it came from. the test results should determine takeimi rao's cause of death. this incident hit her mother hard as well. >> that's, i think, what the scariest thing is, wake up, you know, this is not just about drunk driving anymore, this is, you know, this

ktvu's john sasaki was there and tells us the main suspect has been arrested. >> reporter: after a long search of the area around rose and darlene streets: police say the man who fired at officers gave himself up. >> the s.w.a.t. officers have taken into custody the initial person of interest in this case whom we believe may be the shooter from this morning. he certainly fit it is description. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. officers arrived here after a short gun battle. this all started at about 10:15 a.m. when police say the suspect broke into a house. the victim called 911 and confronted him, at a near by house. >> our theory is he probably hunkered down with the activity. the helicopter, the dogs, and weather he decided i'm going to give up on this or whether he thought maybe we weren't looking for him. >> reporter: through all this, no residents or police officers were hurt but there were some tense moments early on. some homes were safely evacuated including one where two 6 -month-old twins live, this is their uncle. >> yeah, i was at work and then my brother-in-law called me and told me t

ktvu's john sasaki was there and tells us the main suspect has been arrested. >> reporter: after a long search of the area around rose and darlene streets: police say the man who fired at officers gave himself up. >> the s.w.a.t. officers have taken into custody the initial person of interest in this case whom we believe may be the shooter from this morning. he certainly fit it is description. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. officers arrived here after a short gun battle. this all started at about 10:15 a.m. when police say the suspect broke into a house. the victim called 911 and confronted him, at a near by house. >> our theory is he probably hunkered down with the activity. the helicopter, the dogs, and weather he decided i'm going to give up on this or whether he thought maybe we weren't looking for him. >> reporter: through all this, no residents or police officers were hurt but there were some tense moments early on. some homes were safely evacuated including one where two 6 -month-old twins live, this is their uncle. >> yeah, i was at work and then my brother-in-law called me and told me t

ktvu's john sasaki is in martinez with the story of how someone has been trying to take advantage of hn. >> reporter: ken, we are at the martinez police department, which is still in mourning after the death of sergeant brian carter, but as this flier show his legacy lives on, because his police family and his family at home are giving back. 6-year-old peyton and almost 2- year-old preston carter are their father's sons. >> he is our little crazy one, and you know, i just see brian in both of the kids everyday. peyton wants to be a police officer now, and so it's nice. >> reporter: late last month sergeant carter died after a two-year long battle with non- hodgkin's lymphoma. i met him last summer and he was more concerned about helping oregons with bone and blood donations. he was helped by a bone marrow donor. >> i saw him in pain for so long that i know that he is in a better spot now. carter's death came just three years after the department lost another officer, paul starzyk who was killed in the line of duty. >> it's devastating for our organization. as you can imagine, trying t
