we are joined by oakland unified school district spokesman john sasaki, and john is here to explain everythingthat is been going on in the background. john, let's start with what the latest offer is from the school district at this point. >> for why we did have a 5% offer with three years. we have upped that now. we've got one 8.5% offer. that is not a total of 8%. that is 1.5% in bonus for the first year which is 1718. and then 2% next year, and another 2%a total of 7% raise o three years, +1.5% bonus in the first year. >> the teachers union is asking for a 12% raise over three years, correct. also, they are asking for more nurses and resources and things like that. were have the district come in terms with negotiations on that? >> we are focused on improving class-size function of the district. that is something that we know impacts student learning. we know that it -- in some cases we do have some classes that are overcrowded, and we want to make sure that does not happen. we do have one of the best ratios of students to teachers in the state among similarly sized school districts counsel k
