john kasich, scott walker, lindsey graham have given speeches. chris christie is speaking at this hour. mitt romney will deliver his remarks tonight. as of now, having seen what you have seen and heard what you have heard, who has won the day? mark: one of the things that has struck me is the quality of the speeches across the board. walker, rubio, and lindsey graham, they all had stump speeches that are not -- they are pretty well honed. from looking in the room, the reaction, marco rubio got the best reception and held people the best. weekends have -- we still have more. the undecided people impressed by different aspects of different potential candidates. john: i can't tell anything except reading the transcripts and the notes in hearing from you.

let's turn from him to another long-time south carolina lawmaker, state senator john scott joins me now from columbia. senator scott, always good to see youks sir. >> my pleasure to be with you. >> i want to start with a conversation that always seems to start after something like this happens. gun control, and what more should we be doing, and what more can we be doing to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't be near them. is there a political solution to something like this or is this just one of those instances where there's not a whole lot you can do to stop someone like this? >> i think there's a lot we can do to stop this kind of behavior in the south carolina community. first, if you look at what we have done in south carolina in the last three or four years, we've put more guns in the hands of young people. we now allow guns to be carried in bars and restaurants. i sat on the floor of the senate and stood for two years fighting that gun bill but it soon became law. i think one of the most important things that we have to understand if you put guns in the hands of yo

so, john is scott walker really the front-runner here? >> at this moment.that there's probably nothing worse to be than the front-runner in iowa in the summer before an iowa caucus. he has 17 points in the polls right now. he was higher about a month or so ago. the truth of the matter is he hasn't had the greatest month, but what you should look at in that is a lot of candidates bunched, 17 you go down to a couple at 10 a cupouple at 9. nobody has really broken out. walker has an intrigue factor and he is playing the theater of it. look at him coming in on that cycle with that helmet. i'm not sure that he completely in undid the michael dukakis curse there but made his best shot. >> all right. bob, is he overcoming the michael dukakis effect or will he win iowa? >> will he win iowa? i agree with john. i have to say by the way, a great motorcycle weekend in iowa the summer before doesn't guarantee you and doesn't translate into a great night at the caucuses come next winter. look history would suggest that john's absolutely right, you don't necessarily want

some of the other governors who want to enter bobby jindal and chris christie, maybe john kashich and others, scott walker, chief among them, have to wait until the legislative session is over because they are active current governors. what do you make of the timing of this and trying to beat them to the punch? >> well, a couple things. first, general's -- jeb's age. his advisers and strategists said while be mid-june or late june, wouldn't be at the front of the field. it was two months ago we had the first candidates announce. but there was another component and that was doing the preparation necessary to run a very big momentum-controlling campaign and that takes money lots of it. his super pac, which is no-no longer his it's now separate and he is not allowed by federal law too collaborate with supporters who helped build the super pac. he was been fundraising behind closes doors and $100 million in the bank, which could be more than double any of his nearest rivals. so that is one of the reasons why he wanted to take the time to raise this money. now he thinks he has enough gas in the tank to

more potential candidates are considering as you know including governor scott walker. and johnsich. jamie and jackie you sound like a band. it is good on the segment. jamie what do you think of this. wasort of impact will he have? >> i think reports of christie's political demise is premature. he is riding high in the polls two years ago. and people pressured him to get in the presidential. he was hurt with bridgegate that shattered his image and tainted by scandal around him and new jersey's economic recovery. and what he has is a formidable political talent. if he can remind them why, and the town hall meetings and trying to give the straight talk that conservatives love. he might rise again. and i expect. he's down and do you agree or disagree that. >> i agree more so than bridge gate. the economy is a problem in the race. and rick peri. and potentially john ka sich has an economic story to tell how they brought the states along. i think he will be hit because new jersey's credit rating is down. and he has to have a good answer for that. >> it is an interesting point. and i

candidates are scott walker and john and chris christie from new jersey have reacted and said that itbsurd to make it that easy. she just wants an opportunity to create greater acts of voter fraud around the community. >> hillary clinton mentioned you and saying that you're trying to make it hard er for people to vote. what is your reaction to that? >> she does not know what she is talking about. i do not want to expand it and expand fraud. maybe that's what she wants to do. i don't want to do that. maybe she took some questions some places and learned some things, she would not make ridiculous statements. >> it's the idea that there's a lot of collection fraud. >> i guess that she has never been to new jersey. >> it's true that it's known for having a ton of corruption among it's politicians. new jersey is not known for wide spread er fraud. no state is. one of the leading voices of the wright and saying that there's a ton of voter fraud is the secretary of the state chris coback. he has some of the strict er voting rules in the country and all based on that there's massive voter fra

john gonzalez with reaction standing by. we want to start with scott thuman live outside the high court now. scott: quite a day. this was an issue we knew was going to be front and center on the minds of people as they watched the supreme court waiting for the decision to be handed down. in the end we get it 5-4 majority in favor of equality in all 50 states. technically, it was only legal in 36 states and d.c. until today. then this decision. it was preempted by the fact the justices allowed extra time for oral arguments on this case, something they don't typically do. they seemed to indicate this is how they were leaning. while it is a close decision, it means 14 states which currently have bands will no longer be able to enforce those. there will be a brief time before this will be compelled because the court gives the losing side and opportunity to request reconsideration. the second big victory for the obama administration, here is the president speaking shortly after the announcement. president obama: this is a victory for gay and lesbians couple

john: it is clear the establishment candidates in the top tier -- scott walker, i will talk to him in a second -- they want to get to a point where they do not alienate gay americans. scott walker is running so hard to the right. walker has shied away from the idea of a constitutional amendment. now all of a sudden he is the managing one on gay marriage. he is putting himself in jeopardy pursuing that strategy. moving on. after speaking in the rose garden, president obama flew to charleston to speak at the funeral of reverend clementa pinckney who was shot with eight others in charleston. there has been a kind of unity born out of the tragedy. house speaker john boehner took his first flight on air force one since obama has been president. obama spoke out passionately belting out "amazing grace," and bringing the audience into chorus with him. president obama: for too long we have been blind to the way that past injustices continue to shape the present. perhaps we see that now. perhaps this tragedy causes us to ask some tough questions about how we can permit so many of our children t
