john terret got a live picture and john, what are you seeing at this point? john can you hear me? i know you've just gone through some -- go ahead. >> yes hey john, good evening from ferguson where we've had an incident here that involved a lot of tear gas. here is the story. there was a group of protesters who were -- i think this might be more tear gas being fired now. you could see this is right outside the ferg ferguson police headquarters and the fire headquarters on south florison road on ferguson. there's a helicopter going overhead and what you see, and that's -- that is a -- that is some kind of stun grenade i think and more tear gas being fired. the police of course are wearing protective gear. those are st. louis county armored personnel carriers that you see in the middle of your screen at the moament and clearly the police want the protesters to be out of the area. this comes after some of them overturned and smashed a police vehicle further down the road. the police spoke on lout speakers to say if the protesters didn't move then they would be subject to arrest and p

john terret has the report from ferguson. >> supposed to tell people how they would be protected in the event of violence after the grand jury decision. in the end it concentrated on two evenings this week in ferguson. small protests outside the police headquarters in the town where the police are accused of getting heavy handed. daniel i.som is the director of public safety in missouri. he was asked by journalists how he would possibly justify police using heavy handed tactics after the grand jury handing down their decision. here is what he had to say. >> what we've tried to do is establish lines of communication and that's what we've done. this morning we talked about how the interaction went between protesters and the police last night and we were able to dialogue about what the police response was and the reaction of the protesters. >> reporter: of course the grand jury has been meeting. on friday it was reported that that was their last meeting. no word officially on when the decision may be handed down. anthony gray is the attorney for the brown family. he also gave a news confer

john terret is live in ferguson. john i hear horns honking but what kind of preparations are happening there ahead of the enormous anonymity of the grand jury's decision? >> hey tony good afternoon. pretty much everybody who passes by here honks their horn at the small group of protesters who are here. our cameraman ben is going to pan over here. this is a permanent protest site pretty much since the site of the protests in august. outside the ferguson police headquarters of some protest that took place last wednesday and thursday. and there were arrests here, five people on the first night, at least two people on the second night last thursday. and the police were accused of ramping up their tactics against the protesters, being really quite aggressive towards them. so much so, in fact, last friday if you remember on your program we heard from the director of public safety in missouri who was forced to justify the tactics used by the police here. so the decision is coming down sometime in the course of the next coupl

john terret reports from fergson. >> reporter: the video shows darren wilson leaving the police stationin the town to go to hospital to have his injuries treated. in it, you see that he is surrounding by colleagues including his union rep presentative and the video continues so that you see him coming back several hours later and, having been treated. this is the work of the local newspaper, the st. louis dispatch which has been digging into ems and police radio calls and from that, they have worked out that the whole incident took less than 90 seconds. there has been a response to this from the brown family speaking through their lawyers thing say the videos as described by ferguson police were clearly exaggerated. they say that the interaction had nothing to do with the earlier robbery at the convenience store and that the system which they say must be changed is waited helen in favor of law enforcement and not citizenship and that they look forward to the outcome of the grand jury deliberations with great interest. richelle. >> john terrett reporting there. alaska knows who its next
