patrick cronin of the center for a new american security, and loren thompson of the lexington institute. welcome to the program. john want to start with you. the ainistration n wants one number. mac thoberryy, and the context of what he feelsls is the overall national security number, he says $566 billion is what is needed to meet obligations. there's a consensus view that the republicans would be amenable and supportive of defense spending. tell us what this disagreement, what he is saying it means and what the dhs spending challenge means for the future of spending? >> he is telling the pentagon that he would love t to give the pentagon more monein its base budgets, but the law prohibits him fromoing that as the g who is going to write the pentagonudget, the final product. he's got to cut it to the caps. the disagreement lies within -- the armed services committee they will always want more. the right wing of the former tea party caucus -- they're calling themselves the freedom caucus. whether gop leadership wants to have the fight with the freedom caucus and that brings us into the dhs debate, the freedom caucus
