and through my position of working with the chairman of the commerce committee john thune i have been pushing takata and the automakers to speed up fixes for these defective air bags. people are driving around with a lethal bomb in their steering wheel, and if it's defective and it goes off, they are filled with shrapnel. that has killed five people. that's documented in this country. in this country it's killed five people. nobody ought to be driving therefore, a car for five months when, in fact, they have a known defect that can seriously kill them. well, i.t. just not it's just not acceptable. and progress has been painfully slow. and we received a letter from nhtsa noting that only 2 million of the 17 million vehicles recently recalled -- 2 million of 17 million are -- that's all that's been repaired as of the end of last year. and that letter notes that takata has continued to stonewall nhtsa's requests for documents related to the defect. i.t.it's now being fined $14,000 a day until they start cooperating fully. and they've also failed to produce a number of critical documents

but interestingly to fulfill their ambition that john thune said in that clip to eliminate the deficit in 10 years. they're assuming -- that even though they repealed obamacare they still get money -- they never said how they were going to do that. and they proposed that because of the tax reform which they also haven't passed. there there's going to be so much of an increase in the economy activity that through what the process they call dynamic storing they're going to get more money. gwen: it's an ideological document. >> it's completely an ideological document with a twist, they want to cut medicaid and food stamps. they want to increase defense. what they don't want to do any time soon is cut medicare and social security which are the popular programs. so in the house budget, for example, they do nothing at all for social security, called for a bipartisan commission. and on medicare they said we want to fundamentally reform the program with these vouchers they call premium support but we're not going to start it for 10 years. it's something that's not a recipe for concrete action.
