. >> i'm john vause. this is "cnn newsroom." >>> and we are following breaking news out of philadelphia where an amtrak passenger train has derailed killing at least five people. there is no word yet on what may have caused that crash. but passengers say it was like a nightmare with bodies flying, train cars turning on their side, and the sound of twisting metal. >> we were just on the train. all of a sudden it started to shake. and -- and we were in the front seat. and this huge red suitcase just came flying at me. our train was actually on its side. so it pushed me on to the side of the train. i think i had a few fractured ribs. i am a nurse. but i tried to help, there is very many injured people on the train and they're upset. >> heading from washington to new york. 50 people have been taken to hospital. six in critical condition. philadelphia's mayor was on the scene late tuesday. he described what he saw. >> i have been down on the tracks. on the scene. with my staff. it is an absolute disastrous mes

. >> i'm john vause. great to have you with us. this is "cnn newsroom." >>> we begin with the investigation into the deadly amtrak derailment in philadelphia which left seven people dead. the ntsb says the train was going over twice the speed limit when it went off the tracks late tuesday. that's the scene right now. 3:00 in the morning eastern time in philadelphia. >> investigators say they are in the process of getting a search warrant for the engineer's phone records. to see if he was distracted at the team thauf crash. 32-year-old brandon bostian told police he couldn't recall how fast the train was going when it crashed. samuel burke has more. >> reporter: the investigation is still taking place at the crash site just behind me and we are learning more details about the 32-year-old engineer of the train that derailed going 106 miles an hour. yesterday the engineer said he couldn't recall how fast the train was going according to a source. today, he isn't saying anything at all. federal investigators hope this man, brandon bost

. >> john vause also spoke with the mayor of garland, texas. he gave us more details on how the shooting unfolded. >> there were people leaving. two gunmen and a car tried to drive into the parking lot. jumped out with ougautomatic rifles. started firings at unarmed school security officer. he was hilt in tt in the league. transported to the hospital. he was released. the first suspect was shot immediately. the second suspect was shot, wounded. reached for his backpack. officers not knowing any idea what was in the backpack, shot him again. and he was killed. both suspects are actually still lying at the scene, where the bomb squads are trying to check the vehicle to see if there is any bombs or whatever. we don't have any confirmation there is any bombs. but just to be safe. we have evacuated all of the businesses and everything in the area just to -- make sure no one gets hurt. and done an excellent job. a lot of help from neighboring police departments. >> at this point you believe that, that the two dead gunmen are in fact the only people i
