. >> that is congressman walsh of eleanor responding to the criticism of senator john mccain. a politico columnist, roger simon, wrote the congress has become a fantasy baseball camp in which amateurs role in the hall pretending they are major leaguers. >> i am sympathetic with the objectives of the conservatives who are rejecting this deal, but they are shooting themselves in the foot. two examples -- friday morning, the president steps out and says we are going to go for a deal coming out of the senate. by not giving boehner the victory thursday, the center of gravity and leverage shifted from the house to the senate. second, friday, you got these catastrophic economic numbers showing that the economy has grown at less than 1% in the first half of this year, which is utterly -- it was not only a slow rate of growth in the spring, but a revision of the growth in the winter and disastrous. yet, all of the talk in town instead is about the debt ceiling and about the damage republicans may do if they stop the raising of the ceiling. the republicans are achieving huge objectives

john boehner. joining me now, republican congressman and tea party caucus member, joe walsh, thank you very much forng me tonight, congressman. >> great to be with you, lawrence. >> congressman, the president said we're left with a stalemate, john boehner said there is no stalemate. how could the speaker say there is no stalemate? >> there is a stalemate, and again, it should come as no surprise that i was disappointed in the president's speech, but let me -- let me comment directly upon it. it was interesting, he mentioned the two approaches, and i agree with him on this, most of the republican caucus does believe we need to cut spending. pure and simple. and the biggest disappointment, lawrence, i had in this speech was i don't think the president knows where large swaths of the american people are. i held three town halls this weekend, probably 400 to 500 people, and i would poll everybody in these town halls, and lawrence, i come from a swing district, and by far the option that most americans wanted, and it wasn't heck no, don't raise the debt ceiling, it was we know we have to raise it, but cu

and our producer, deedra walsh, she heard a short time ago that there's a 2:00 conference call between house speaker john boehner and house republican leadership, with all the members, or however many members can get on the call in the house. to update them on the status of negotiations. but there's a level of seriousness, you can be sure, amongst the leaders, because they have an eye on the clock, just like we all have an eye on the lock now, and they know that they are running out of time in order to get a teal. what that deal is, according to the house republican aides that briefed me and reporters yesterday, they said very bluntly, they have no idea what the path forward is at this point. we know that they're looking, as put by a couple of aides, they're kind of looking at all options on the table again. and at the same time as brianna well noted, that fallback plan between senators reid and mcconnell, that's also still on the shelf, as one person put it as a last resort. but as its latest formation, l t.j., it doesn't look like it has the support to pass in the house. so they're working very diligen

john nichols, what's the atmosphere surrounding this story in wisconsin? >> it's one of the most intense stories i've ever been around. there's a divide around this story, the fact of the matter is, that ann walshhe most respected jurors in wisconsin. she's never had a blemish on her name. never any controversy associated with her. justice david prosser a far more controversial figure. someone you've reported on a good deal in the show, who called the chief justice of the supreme court a [ bleep ] and said he was going to destroy her, and acknowledged doing that. now he stands accused of this attack. his defenders have been incredibly brutal in their criticisms of ann walsh bradley, and it's created a very painful circumstance where a lot of wisconsinites who know both these people are trying to sort it out, and really having, i think a lot of people having a hard time imagining some of the things that are being said about ann walsh bradley. >> lisa, they're saying that the justice bradley initiated this confrontation. what about that? >> you know, i -- i think that's a case of blaming the victim. i think that way too often when someone is abusive toward another individual, particularly when a
