nbc's john yang joins me now. what is the latest on this incredibly tragic story? >> well kristen, her family is rallying saying that this is not a case of afn irresponsible gun owner. her father-in-law said she is a responsible gun owner, took gun safety courses. she says this is simply the accidental result of a toddler's curiosity. the police say there is unreleased security video showing her 2-year-old son in the shopping cart her purse nearby. he reaches into the purse, gets the concealed weapon the gun that she was carrying there. it discharges. the bullet strikes her, killing her. now she had a concealed weapons permit. her father-in-law said she carried this gun in a bag that was specially designed -- is specially designed to keep it secure. she got it just for christmas last week. but the police in hayden do say that all of the precautionary measures weren't taken to ensure the safety of that weapon. we're not sure exactly what that means. they are not explaining themselves. they say that this was an accidental death and that they are continuing their inve
