i spoke with congressman john yarmuth this morning. he said the u.s.ay the course despite the objections of israel to a deal. >> netanyahu is kind of like the israeli tea party. he always wants everything his way. i say that as a jewish american who strongly supports israel. these kinds of situations require step by step progress. this is a huge step forward. >> nbc's kristen welker is at the white house for us. a got saturday to you. how likely is it secretary kerry is going to walk away from these talks with a firm deal? >> it's not looking it very promising at this hour according to diplomats in geneva and a part of these talks. one of the key sticking points coming from france. this they say this deal doesn't do enough to curb iran's nuclear enrichment program calling this a sucker's deal. another sticking point has been sanctions. the united states apparently offering to limit some sanctions on a very small scale. israelis have been highly skeptical of these talks, as well. prime minister benjamin netanyahu saying iran is essentially poised to get

sahil kapur for talking points memo.com and john yarmuth, a democrat from kentucky.d we have richard blumen all that of the senate armed services committee. we're seeing some oth initial reaction from republicans in the senate, you have lindsey graham, who is suggesting that he wants to pursue sanctions. some sanctions are being lifted as part of this deal. he's saying he would like congress to act and reimpose those sanctions, maybe with the six-month delay. i know we had democrats like chuck schumer expressing in the past week some reservations about this deal. do you share those reservations and think congress right now should be looking at reimposing some sanctions, even on a provisional basis? >> i do think there is a continued need for some kind of congressional action and i will be working with my colleagues on a senate bill that is careful and cautious, perhaps in delaying the sanctions, by six months, to see what comes of this interim deal, but -- and iranian sanctions bill still is very much worth considering and moving forward to achieve. count me as a ske

joining me now, congressman john yarmuth, audrey haynes with health and family services for the statef kentucky, where she oversees the health benefits exchange and medicaid, and our own ezra klein, msnbc policy analyst and columnist with the "washington post." i'll begin with you, audrey. why are things working so well in kentucky? explain it to me. >> hi, chris. good evening. well, first of all, things are working in kentucky because most of us are pulling in the same direction, and that is, to be successful. you played a clip from our governor, and as everyone has gotten to know him, you know how energized and heartfelt he is about insuring that not only is kentucky moving in education but kentucky is on the move to become healthier. we're about the 44th sickest state in the country, and that is just unacceptable to him and to many of the rest of us, and so -- >> wait a second. >> his dedication -- >> i understand, the governor's behind it, that makes a huge difference, but oregon is a state where they're very invested, they want this to work and they haven't signed up anybody in t

. >> joining me is kentucky congressman john yarmuth. as a member of the energy and commerce committee and he was there for wednesday's hearing. sir, great to have you with me. politico has in print what's been pretty obvious all along, talking about gop sabotage. quoting from the article saying the opposition was strategic from the start. derail president barack obama's biggest am sbition and derail obama himself. the evidence, the bread crumbs of this trail is all there and a major part of that sabotage has taken place at the state level. only 17 states are running their own exchanges and 26 have turned down medicaid expansion. is state level obstruction the biggest obstacle to the aca being a success? >> i don't think there's any question about it. all you have to do is look at my state and california and new york and some of the states that have done their own exchanges and the sheerexperience has bee incredibly successful. we have 35,000 kentuckians enrolled in the first month. people who could not afford or did not have access to i
