after firefighters say another student johnson middle school in the west valley. 8 news now reporter karen castro found out why parents were frustrated with administrators. ((karen castro)) after receiveing an alert, many parents rushed to the school to pick up their kids. but they were turned away. crowds waited outside johnson middle school as firefighters and the environmental protection agency secured the campus. we're told a student brought mercury to school and at least five kids who were at the gym were exposed to the chemical but no one was hurt. las vegas fire and rescue says those students were immediaty students were intially supposed to leave school at normal time but the epa conducted a sweep of the campus and was checking out every student before releasing them. as of five this evening, some parents were still waiting to pick up their kids.
