johnston's car crashed head-on into a vehicle on west reinbeck road near hudson on september 25th. the crash killed 34 year old holly paradine of lincoln, iowa, who was driving the second car. jury selection began today for a man who's on trial for the fatal stabbing of his ex- girlfriend in the marion hy-vee parking lot last spring. the charge against 32 year old nicholas is first degree murder. authorities allege that he had been following 29 year old lynnsey donald for months before he ambushed her in april. after the attack, police say donald tried to kill himself. lynnsey donald's seven year old son was with her when the stabbing happened. the defense plans to claim leurkens had diminished capacity and was intoxicated at the time. the state has tentatively agreed to pay 235-thousand dollars to settle a lawsuit by a former resident at the iowa juvenile home. jessica turner claimed in her suit that the cells for 280 days between 2011 and 2012. she claims she would cry and tell employees she was in pain and wanted out, but they would only let her out to use the bathroom. governor
