cnn's jomana karadsheh is live from amman, jordan. what can you tell us, jomana?er: christine, according to local authorities at 5:00 a.m. on sunday local time, isis attacked the plant in baghdad. they say two suicide car bomb, the first opened the entrance and that left way for the second to come through and clash with security forces and guards. clashes that went on for hours. the governor of baghdad critical of authorities despite the attack repelled saying the security forces were slow to respond. more than two hours to get to the scene. the forces present at the plant were not adequately armed to defend the facility. this is not the first attack we are seeing. this is not the first of the attacks claimed by isis. they are concerned about the uptick in violence. many people isis is trying to exploit the political crisis in country to reignite the sectarian war. bret mcgirk, president obama's envoy to the global coalition had this to say. >> now the caliphate, as they call it, is shrinking. they are on the defensive. they have not retain any territory. >> repor

[ gunfire ] >> reporter: you can see and you can hear u.s. special operation forces there trying to fight back this isis assault. we also heard from colonel steve warren, the u.s. spokesperson in baghdad, telling reporters about this attack and how it unfolded on tuesday. he says that an advise and assist team was visiting. they had a meeting with the kurdish peshmerga forces in the town of teleskafa north of mosul. this is two miles back from the kurdish frontlines. at 7:30 a.m. local on tuesday, isis militants launched this massive surprise coordinated and complex attack using bulldozers and suicide truck bombs and infantry. they managed to punch through and sprinted to the town where the u.s. team happened to be. a u.s. quick reaction force which is made up of navy s.e.a.l.s, in thi

good morning, jomana. >> reporter: good morning, john.eally devastating bloody day yet again on wednesday in baghdad. those three attacks that you mentioned, the deadliest in satr city. the shi'a slum with 1 million people living there. a part car bomb detonated at a market when it was packed with shoppers. mothers with young children and lots of civilians there. car bomb resulting in 64 people killed and more than 90 others injured. late near the day, two suicide bombers attacking two different neighborhoods. one in northern baghdad and one in western baghdad. dozens killed and injured in the attacks. you mentioned isis claiming responsibility for the attacks saying it was targeting the shi'a paramilitary groups. as we have seen in the horrific images in the aftermath of the attacks, many women and children, among the casualties of those attacks. really highlighting here isis ability while it has lost ground in western and northern iraq in recent months, these attacks we saw on wednesday are not the only attacks. we have seen similar bom

we have cnn's jomana karadsheh tracking the latest.overtake fallujah but it will not be something that will happen overnight? >> reporter: absolutely not, alison. it is expected to be a very bloody fight. fallujah has been under isis control since january of 2014. the first city to fall to isis that year. now there's a lot of concern about this battle because of the civilians who are trapped inside that city. we heard from organizations like human rights watch and united nations saying tens of thousands of civilians in fallujah trapped by isis, besieged by the iraqi security forces who circled the city in preparation for the major offensive. there is concern that the civilians may not be able to leave. we heard from the iraqi military saying they provided them with areas of safe passage. there is concern because we heard reports in recent weeks that civilians who tried to flee the city under isis control have been executed by isis. now the concern is they will be trapped in what is expected to be a very bloody fight. also involved in i
