jon erlichman is in l.a. following the story. we have been covering the potential for this deal for years. was this license all they were waiting for? >> there are a host of issues that played into why these two could not get on the same side. them.twork was one of and obviously, the pricing and revenue sharing agreement, subsidies, all of the stuff that apple always has to deal with its working out arrangements with the carriers. at the end of the day, it would be a huge developing for the company just based on numbers. we are talkingbout a carrier that has well over 750 million subscribers. you put at&t and verizon together and they still look small compared to china mobile. about 175 million or more of those were already using the devices that apple uses. thate kinds of devices apple uses. about 17 million iphones alone coming from china mobile in 2014. that would be more than 10% of the total number of phones they sold this year. those financials tell you it is a big deal. >> does this take any short-term pressure off of appl

jon erlichman, i want to start with you.st as many tools, sometimes at this point someone say they are ahead of the good guys. >> you could definitely make that argument here. the target case specifically, this is not just someone stealing your credit card and going on a shopping spree. the cards attached to them make their way immediately to the a veryarket, sophisticated market. often you hear about these data breaches affecting millions of people. dell has some amazing statistics on this. they find it if you take a visa or mastercard to the black market, that is worth three dollars or four dollars, but if you can do so with sensitive data, which was targeted as part of this targeted data breach, you could get a very valuable piece of information, like eight of birth, which allows the card users to skirt the security issues that are generally attached these card. absolutely, this is a very sophisticated world of hacking we are living in. >> when someone buys cards and card numbers on the black market, what happens? do they

. -- ourr was courts senior west coast course by jon erlichman on this. >> the reason we are hearing about all this can -- cable consolidation is costing competition. rob edition is a tricky one, because the pay-tv providers are all competing with each other, but remember that a lot of them are spaced out over the country. they are not always competing with each other in one local market. really, what cable comedies are computer -- competing with right now is for your time. to keep you with the cable package as opposed to using something like apple tv and netflix. or being on facebook and twitter all day. the realities of a fast-changing market, where people could get video anywhere, anytime they want, that is a really tough thing for the cable companies to have to deal with. because it is moving so quickly. on the cost side, you bring two copies together, they are the obvious cost synergy, there's a lot of infrastructure that goes into running these businesses, but the other cost is content. remember, if you're a smaller player, generally do not get the same terms on all that conten
