jon huntsman raised a little over 2 million throwing his own money at 4 million.aul told supporters he's raised over $4 million. the number though everybody is watching what will the michele bachmann number be? she can transfer money from the house campaign. was she able to get in the internet and direct mail money in in time? will the number be forth of 5 million? will it be north of 10? that would be somewhat of a surprise. meanwhile, a siren for the supporters of rick perry, he's scouting out a vendor pot at the straw poll. it's our understanding perry won't get into the race until after he has the national day of prayer on august 6th. the straw poll is basically a week later. he wouldn't get in before then bupt the straw poll could be a way to see if that's the launching point and he gets in sometime in late august in time for those three debates that mitt romney and company are competing in in september. meanwhile, though there are no firm numbers yet, we're expecting a big quarter from team obama. fundraisers are predict they will bring in more than the reco

mitt romney and jon huntsman were in new hampshire. others were in ohio.tion to political considerations to be in these places at this time, all the rows of campaign financial decisions helping fuel these decisions for them? romney in huntsman, for example, spending more time in new hampshire. guest: absolutely, and it comes down to this organization to the tea party. it cost a lot of money to make an effort to win in a caucus state like iowa. i know it is not just a caucus state, but one that has a very heavy emphasis in the republican party on social issues, where mitt romney and jon huntsman are seen as susceptible to a challenge from the right. they are seen as more moderate and cast themselves as appealing more to independent in swing voters. in iowa, they have to do a cost- benefit analysis. they have to decide is it worth it to put the number of boots on the ground, to make a run of running, not just the caucus in early next year or early february, but to win the straw polls that happens in august, seen as a key indicator for the caucuses in iowa. i

jon huntsman has made it clear that he will not compete in iowa. he could be a formidable challenger. the question is will that steepen the victory for the people that come out of that state doing well or not? what inevitably happens in iowa is the person who comes out of that race comes out with a lot of momentum. what is important is not just the perception among voters, but the perception among donors. so what you will see is people cashing in on those victories. i think iowa is an important state no matter to compete staircase. how important it will be remains toe seen. host: kathy kiely is the politics managing editor. the numbers to call -- a story in "to "the huffington post" recently -- how does that play out in terms of candidates figuring out their strategy and carrying their message? guest: it plays out because this is one of the controversial aspects of our electi system. we use an electoral college system which makes certain states very important, states where the candidates know the battle will be closely fought. other states become f

like a first mission she is doing is she has teamed up with mitt romney, and she is firing at jon huntsman, former governor of utah. basically, what is going on here? >> she's a finance chair for mitt romney, yet she is criticizing jon huntsman for being a career politician. that got them very upset. as the waves will be made here. he is a native of palo alto. he's a guy who is a good communicator. we've met with him here in san francisco. >> he's not the only one hitting the california circuit. we have the texas governor, mr. kerry. >> a series of behind closed door meetings with california republican legislatures. >> keep in mind, rick. the governor of texas now has the reputation of being the one governor who has steered his state in such a way that it has been the job growth. the highest percentage of states holding job growth has been. in texas. at the same time, he took on the republican establishment when he tried to elimination last time around. he is into this thing. if he wasn't governor, he would probably be with the church. so he has a number of factors that seem to produce him

going back to jon huntsman he's got to begin to make a move. right now in new hampshire this poll at least and his rather anemic fundraising shows he didn't get any bounce out of the rollout for sure. >> he's not running in iowa. he's at 2% in new hampshire. he's going to have to show people that there is a path to the nomination. that's the case i made last week. he's a fine person, a great public servant. probably deserves a medal of freedom for his service. he's got going go to the nominee. he's not running in iowa, he's not strong in new hampshire. i think they're betting on florida. it's going to be too late. >> too late in the game. >> i think so. >> what do you see out of pawlenty at this stage? is he really the one most hurt by michele bachmann's unexpectedly strong showing though her ability to connect with vote sners. >> he's hurt because he had invested so much in iowa in terms of his is the largest team there. he's going to have to do well in the strong poll in ames on august 13th. he is hurt by bachmann to some extent. i think you

bad news in the poll for jon huntsman. 2% of the vote. hundredsman can't catch a break in the endorsement game. his former chief of staff, utah congressman and future senator is endorsing mitt romney calling him more lectable. interesting number for you this morning in iowa. iowa republicans are souring on ethanol subsidies. in a new poll conducted by consumer voter research, for the iowa republican 47% of likely republican caucus goers have a very or somewhat positive view of a candidate who wants to cut ethanol subsidies. 24% have a negative reaction to that. finally overnight, tim pawlenty's numbers got higher. he's bringing in the daughter of mike huckabee to run his campaign. she helped put together that campaign in iowa for her dad to win the caucuses and finish second in the straw poll. in an effort to engage the young and tech savvy the president is holding a tweet up this afternoon. topic is the economy and jobs but the thousands of 140 character or less queries submitted versus the ask obama hash tag includes marijuana legalizat
