there are a lot of jon huntsman fans in universities. i think jon huntsman is a great guy. i chose to support them because ideologically, he was the one out of the field that i agree the most with. sometimes very good people, who might even be good governing, don't make the best candidates. i have to tell you. he wasn't too fond of fundraising. it is terrible to be asking people for money all of the time. it is one of the worst parts of politics. it is a necessary evil. he just didn't cut three. i also think john, who i respect and like, has a tremendous family. jon has become a nonfactor in the republican party. and the democrat party. just to give you an example, last year, chris christie wasn't invited to tea pack -- tpac. that was fodder for days. how chris christie, potential 2016, bigger than life, wasn't invited. jon was invited and no one noticed. somehow, even though people like jeb bush and bobby jindal, like chris christie have been critical of the republican party, particularly in washington, a somehow managed to do it from within the tent. i can't put my finger

he certainly doesn't have the same kind of background that jon huntsman did.es close to him, has always had a very strong interest in china, obviously as chair of the finance committee. he deals with a lot of issues that are related to china and the other thing that is interesting is that his sort of political hero is mike mansfield, who left the senate, he was also senator from montana and went to be ambassador to japan. so he sort of sees a nice symmetry in being able to follow the footsteps of somebody who he respected so much. >> the posts often go to big political names, we have a kennedy there right now. am i being machiavellian when i think you look at baucus from here, democrats get help holding on to the seat, all the other stuff, mary landrieu gets help for her seat. am i being paranoid? >> sometimes i think we reporters give politicians too much credit but this time, i don't think we are. i think you are totally on to something. first and foremost because the idea i'm told came from joe biden. he and max baucus are very good friends. they had lunch
