. >> jon karl live at the capitol. jon, you and i were on the air as this all played out today, and i can't imagine really anyone on donald trump's legal team advising the former president to cooperate with the committee. bottom line tonight, is there any chance he complies with this subpoena, any chance he testifies? >> reporter: highly unlikely. the former president did put out a statement in response to the subpoena, but it simply said, "why did they wait so long to subpoena me, to ask me to testify?" no direct answers as to whether or not he will comply with the subpoena and testify or defy it. it seems highly unlikely that he would comply, but david, you got to consider this -- testifying under oath before this committee would make him the center of attention to a degree which he has not been since he left the white house, so, i wouldn't rule it out entirely. and as for why they issued the subpoena, the whole point of today's committee was to say that donald trump was uniquely responsible for what happened on janu

"the post" reports the employee told federal investigators that after donald trump received a subpoena for government documents back in may the former president specifically requested the documents be moved. according to "the post," security camera footage from mar-a-lago obtained by the fbi corroborated the employee's descriptions of events. chief washington correspondent jon karl is tracking the case. morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, this is a report in "the washington post" that says that shortly after trump turned over the initial 15 boxes of records to the national archives earlier this year he asked that lawyer, alex cannon, to tell the national archives that he had turned over all his presidential records. according to "the post" cannon refused to do so because the statement simply wasn't true. we now know that trump had many, many more presidential records with him at mar-a-lago. we know that because, of course, the fbi executed that search warrant and retrieved some two dozen boxes' worth of presidential records in august of this year, including many ocuments that were marked as classified. at the time that he had asked his lawyer to issue this statement trump did put out a public statement saying that he was cooperating fully, collaboratively, respectfully with the national archives. we now know, of course, george, that that wasn't true either. >> right. that statem

chief washington correspondent jon karl is tracking the case. , jon. >> reporter: good morning, george. when federal agents searched mar-a-lago back in august, they seized thousands of pages of documents. but now doj investigators say there are still even more government records that the former president has not turned over. overnight, sources told abc news the justice department has made it clear to former president trump's lawyers that it still doesn't believe trump returned all the presidential records he took with him when he left the white house. the development was first reported by "the new york times." the head of the justice department's counter intelligence section reached out directly to trump's lawyers to convey that message. the sources told abc. it's unclear where any of the remaining documents might be. trump continues to insist the investigation is politically motivated. >> they raided and broke into my home. everyone knows we've done nothing wrong. they are targeting me because they want to silence me, silence you and silence our
