i'm jon kelley. >> i'm marla tellez. breaking news in san francisco. the domestic abuse trial of sheriff ross mirkarimi has abruptly ended with a plea agreement. nbc bay area's monty francis live at hall of justice with the sudden development. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. this morning here at hall of justice, sheriff ross mirkarimi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment and in exchange the d.a. dropped the other three charges that the sheriff faced. the charges dropped include domestic violence, dissuading a witness and child endangerment. the plea deal took everybody surprise. the jury select was under away this stems from new year's eve, accused of inflicting a bruise on his wife's arm. his wife, eliana lopez, maint n maintained throughout all of this there's no abuse in their relationship but a video taken by a neighbor showed that bruise and had been admitted -- the video had been admitted as evidence in the case. during the brief court hearing mirkarimi apologized to the neighbor, ivory madison who alerted police

. >> i'm jon kelley. this morning a developing story in france where hundreds of police have their guns drawn all aimed at one single target. an apartment building where a man suspected of seven killings is reportedly hiding out. police are gearing up to go in. >> he's in a small house, and outside hundreds of police who have been trying to persuade this 24-year-old man to come out and to come out without having more violence. we understand an order came some time ago to move in, to end negotiations or else the police would storm the house. we now believe that the order from the highest authorities in paris now has to come down. as it does, there will be some imminent and dramatic movement. we now have a better idea of the profile of this individual. his name is muhammad merah, a nigerian extract, he trained in pakistan's tribal territories and he returned to france to commit jihad. he's admitted in great detail through the carrying out of all of the recent killings here in the toulouse area. he says he k

i'm jon kelley. >> the news at 11:00 starts now. >>> well, this morning a 92-year-old woman pulled from her burning home in oakland is dead. firefighters hacked through the roofs, battled the flachmes nea the home at the intersection of 18th and chestnut streets. a very emotional day of course for the woman's family. good morning to you. what are they saying about what happened? >> reporter: well, they're coming and going and they have their own theories about what happened. they think that this actually may be tied to a medical condition. i'll get to that in a minute. i want to show you what the house looks like. it doesn't look that bad from the outside but when firefighters got here they say it was completely filled with smoke. they tried to revive that 92-year-old woman who lived here but she didn't make it. this morning the coroner has identified her as jimmy burton. her family says she lived in the small house here on chestnut street since 1956. they say she lived alone since her husband passed away in 1994. about 5:30 this morning firefighters say they responded to a single alarm
