meteorologist jon loufman has a big job in for sam roberts tracking the forecast. let's get the latest on hurricane hermine. >> jon: great. let's do that. box here has now changed. what's this all about? tornado watch box. hurricanes often spin off tornadoes, and there you see the spinning going on right hand. it's headed through southern georgia. where is it going next? it heads miles per hour. by this afternoon, 50-mile-per-hour winds are still tropical storm-force winds, so still a tropical storm. headed off through charleston up toward the outer banks, and there it goes. this is saturday afternoon, 2:00 in the afternoon heads out into sea. 45-mile-per-hour winds mean it's still tropical storm strength. it heads up to 65 as it gets stronger on sunday morning, warm waters at atlantic. it will affect the outer banks and headed up towards, yep, you bet, cape cod. probably affecting the east coast with garden variety rain and maybe a thunderstorm or two. here's what's going on here. for the first alert doppler max. let's close in on southern geauga county. there it i

jon loufman live in the traffic center right now with an update on the traffic situation. john. >> jon: you're looking at this picture. and we are looking at speeds of 5 miles per hour as you're coming out of town. now, look simply put and we'll enlarge this here in just a minute, you're going to need to take the shoreway if you're headed out of town. take route 6, clifton boulevard, take lake if you're traveling west. you're not going to be able to do it any other way. go across the detroit bridge. cross detroit. but you're going to have to get beyond warren road before you can try to get back on to 90. it is just a mess out there. these traffic numbers, 5 miles per hour, 4 miles per hour, 15 miles per hour here on 480. and this is a separate incident. these are pretty typical and many places it's just simply bumper to bumper. so if you are planning on getting out of town, they're in the clearing stages on some of closed. and the way to go is lake, cliff side, route 6, detroit road if you're headed west. and you would normally have taken route 90. i'll have an update and n

jon loufman has been tracking the situation closely and joins us with what's happening at this moment. jon? >> simply put, 70 northbound. there's not a car on the road. the road is closed. why? mark just mentioned it, a fatality. we will switch to the traffic computer and the fatality has the road closed and will be closed awhile. slow going. travg direction southbound on 71 folks are trying to get out of town. here is a look at the traffic on 90. fulton wide open now. that has been opened and that is the good news. however still plenty of slow going across the region. outbound traffic 77 and accident reported near woodland and folks are crawling along. bumper-to-bumper all the way through, through the course of the afternoon and folks downtn 59mile-an-hour speed limit on 490 because 90 has been open and folks traveling 490 to get to 490 can now do that. things are picking up just a little bit. the admonition is take it easy because there are accidents. further west 90, 90 eastbound at detroit and a new accident reported. an accident at the generallings at 480. a slow go making your w
