this week, local 5 sports director jon schaeffer and hawkeye headquarters reporter alex giaimo will be joining the team out in pasadena. jack: sunday the hawkeyes participated in the 60th beef bowl at lawry's the prime rib restaurant in beverly hills. the beef bowl began in 1956 and is known as college football's most pre-bowl game tradition. organizers say it's not about which team eats the most but to honor champion student athletes for making it to the rose bowl. but the hawkeyes did win the first ever beef bowl, out- eating oregon state by 17 pounds. more than 82- thousand pounds of beef have been consumed at the beef bowl over the years. iowa head coach kirk ferentz said he told the players to "enjoy themselves," and to, quote, "go a little bit crazy, but not too crazy." jack: the iowa donor network will have three honorees in the rose bowl parade. they are jesse andrew jorgensen, julie durr, and suzanne conrad. jorgensen's father donated his son's organs after he passed away in a car crash when he was just 18. durr is honoring her father who received a liver transplant, allowing
