. >>> joining us to dig deeper into all of this, montana democratic senator jon tester. before we get into the political side of this, let's talk about the people in your state and other rural states like yours. these cutbacks slow down the delivery of medicine, social security checks, things your constituents need to survive. is that getting overlooked here? >> well, i don't know. i think folks in montana understand the postal services are a critical lifeline for our rural communities and folks who live in remote areas. and it's true it's about voting, but it's also about folks being able to get their prescription drugs. it's about folks being able to get their parts and packages on time in a timely manner. the postal service is something that is critical for rural america. and to watch this postmaster general destroy the postal service under trump's direction and to watch mitch mcconnell do nothing to try to stop that. and by the way, or anybody in the republican senator caucus stop him other than just give lip service, is disgusting. i'm going to tell you if these guy

committee, chairman jerry moran, and ranking member jon tester, and the assistance of them and their staffs in working with me and senator warner and our staffs to include our proposal, the improved well-being for veterans act. in the comprehensive mental health care package, again, that we just passed in the senate. i especially want to thank rosy hiez, and pat mcgoygan, members of my staff who spent countless hours to find a solution to help advance in idea. the v.a. estimates around 20 veterans commit suicide each day. that number has remained roughly unchanged despite a tremendous increase in funding. interestingly, only aches of those 20 veterans are receiving health care services at the v.a. by sharing information and collaborating with veteran service nonprofits and other commun organizations, we can expand our network and provide the help that veterans need. and ultimately capture more veterans into our v.a. system. v.a. secretary robert which will key called this approach key to unlocking the veteran suicide crisis. hopefully he's right. i applaud the senate for advancing th

jon scott hannon. commander hannon was a decorated navy seal. i met his family through senator tester. but he, like every veteran, was more than just what his service record would show. his famines friends remember him as a -- his family and friends remember him as a passionate veteran advocate. he tried to help other veterans. he said he had a gentle heart and fierce belief in taking actions to tackle big challenges. sadly, commander hannon lost his fight with post-traumatic very, with bipolar order and the affects of a brain injury. he lost that fight in february of 2018. he now lives on in the memories of his friends and family and when s. 785 becomes law, the namesake, the commander john scots hannon mental health improvate act, he will be remembered even more. more by other americans than his family and friends t i'm proud to lead this effort in passage of this legislation and its development, creation, the study and efforts, the conversation that went on with my colleagues in the senate, our colleagues in the veterans' affairs committee, the veteran service organizations, his fam
