our environment correspondent, jonah fisher, has been to one of the possible locations.ave a power station on my doorstep. this story is of the uk's energy past, present and future. if the chimneys were smoking, you had an idea of what you would be doing the day. he used to work at a coal power station, grinding the coal down for use in the furnaces. it sounds like every dirtyjob. very dirtyjob. the washing machine had a pretty hard life. three, two, one! in 1991, as the uk phased out coal, the iconic towers of the power station, the cricket stump so they were known, were brought tumbling down. in its wake, an era of cheap gas dawn. now, second gas plant is about to come on stream, and we were given a look around. they pass through the turbine. much cleaner than coal, it still emits the carbon dioxide that is warming up planets. from here on top of the cooling tower you get a real sense of the energy transition here. over there on the horizon, those mountains are the leftovers from when there was a coalfired power station. you can see the wind turbines along the horizon.

jonah fisher, bbc news, in shrewsbury.uk from illegal puppy farms in eastern europe. the demand for new pets in lockdown fuelled a sharp rise in dog smuggling into britain, which provides one of the biggest markets for puppies. the bbc�*s our world programme infiltrated online groups, buying and selling dogs. here's anna adams. these dogs have been rescued from illegal puppy mills in hungary by animal charities. a bbc our world investigation found smugglers breaking the law and abusing the pet passport scheme to traffic pregnant dogs and puppies into the uk. they make their way to britain via germany, where police have seized more than 3,000 dogs since 2021. this hungarian smuggler kept these four heavily pregnant dachsunds in squalid conditions as he tried to transport them into the uk, claiming they were his pets. under the european pets travel scheme, you are allowed to transport dogs if they are your pets, but the evidence showed it was more likely that they had come from a puppy mill in hungary. translation: the boxes

from poole, here's our environment correspondent, jonah fisher. morning looking for oil. we're basically hunting it down, tracking it, assessing all the shoreline. we've covered 16 kilometres of shoreline so far, and that's by foot, by vessel and by drone. oil was first spotted in the water on sunday morning. gas company perenco produces thousands of barrels a day from its oilfield here, and it quickly confirmed that the pipeline under the harbour had leaked, discharging 200 barrels of what's called reservoirfluid, a mix of water and oil, into the sea. in all, it's thought about six tonnes of oil spilled into poole harbour, but thanks in part to the quick response, you can see here some of the booms that were used to control the spill, it appears the overall impact of this will be quite limited. the authorities say the clean—up could take a week, and have declared beaches off—limits and banned swimming, for humans and dogs. she's very shouty. i am always a bit cautious about them going into the water generally, anyway. but obviously with this you
