we have jonah goldberg, editor and chief of the dispatch, also a cnn political commentator joining us right now. jonah, what's your take on all of this? >> you ever see the movie "tin cup" where at the end he swings 19 times to win the tournament when he can't win it after the second swing. it feels a little like that. i do think there's a little bit of an inflationary import of this. kevin mccarthy is not zelenskyy or churchill or anybody. part of what makes this such a spectacle is it's about the smallness of kevin mccarthy, and the people who oppose him -- one of the things as a conservative that frustrates me with coverage on all the networks is everyone keeps referring to the freedom caucus who support him as conservatives. they're nihilists. most of these guys are performative people. matt gaetz is an illiterate. a lot of this just -- we'll have a speaker by the end of the week. >> by the end of the week? >> everyone is talking about how america is watching this. america is much more concerned with what's going on with the nfl. >> i agree with you, this is obviously the minority

. >>> perspective from nia-malika henderson, also charlie dent and cnn political commentator, jonah goldberg. congressman dent, let's just go on to, what do you think is happening right now behind the scenes? >> well, it sounds like, you know, the bazaar is open. the store is open and deals are being made. like i said earlier, let's see what they do on this motion to vacate the chair. if that comes down to five or one, that's self-destructive for whoever the republican speaker is, just handing rope to your opponents to hang you with. there's that. i'm still stunned about this super pac agreement. to the extent they will end up nominating republicans who are on the far right fringe, who will not be part of the governing majority. those people will get elected. and in some cases they'll elect democrats because some of those folks will be too far to the right. i think it's very self-destructive. somebody should talk to the more moderate, pragmatic members of the house republican caucus about that deal. i can't imagine any of them are happy about it. i would think they would be livid over it. th

and jonah goldberg, i have to say, i'm kind of surprised. i really thought there was going to be a momentum from kevin mccarthy or the 19 rebels or the democrats who are clearly having the day of their -- the day of 2023. what do you think? >> i think your word for relieved is quite well taken. i think everybody is sort of like oh my gosh, we're really going to do this and thinking about having their families in town and they knew there wouldn't be any settling of this now. i think mccarthy legitimately is trying to stick it out because he's like richard gear. he has no place else to go. >> any more movie references? >> we have hours to go. we have hours to go. just to explain for folks at home, the reason why they all have members -- have their family members here is because after the speaker of the house is elected and there is a few other votes, they all get sworn in. >> that's supposed to be a form formality. >> it's an exciting moment for the new members and a time for husbands and wives and children and parents, et cetera to come and w
