jonathan: -- a one mandate fed. jonathan: some coverage on one single name, john deere. donald trump going after the company big time. annmarie: saying if they move any manufacturing to mexico he will have tariffs on them upwards of 200%. you're starting to see the former president fill in some of the gaps of the direction of travel. he said at the economic club of new york that you will only get that 15% corporate tax rate if you produce in the united states and now he is saying not only will you get that carrot approach, but the stick will be if you decide to move outside the united states you will get hit with tariffs. lisa: park and think about is we will get economic speech from donald trump. will it be like deere, i have an issue with you, we have a question about where our coal is, question about this company, will it be like that, there are no more taxes? there are questions people will have. annmarie: the point was made that maybe the pullback in hiring this down to the election and i wonder how many companies like john deere are reluctant to make big decisions

jonathan: let's talk about retail sales and how that jonathan: jonathan: might influence things. saying it is not that they are data point dependent, but that could shift market expectations so close to 50 they might not want to disappoint them? ian: only if it is really weak. if it comes in stronger it is not going to be part of the analysis. we know the consumer remains on strong footing. if we see and negative print that probably tips the scale to 50. lisa: what we pricing in in the rights market? we have some people saying it is accurately pressing in about a 40% chance of recession, which is the baseline for bank of america. other people saying it prices in a much bigger tear risk of something that is negative. what is your take? ian: when i look at the futures market what i see is the market expects the fed to get back to neutral, but not cutting into the one handle territory. that implies that at least from a monetary policy perspective we are still in a soft landing narrative. ken yields close to 350 suggest we are in for some economic downside the next two or three years

jonathan: of course.itical discussions around the fed, other than joe biden saying he has not met with jerome powell, even though he has? jonathan: the former president said the economy was really bad but they were doing it for politics. it is one or the other. lisa: i would say that that sounds about right. you saw that from other people who potentially might be treasury secretary's under donald trump say something similar. maybe the fed know something we do not, the economy is falling off a cliff, otherwise, why would they do this? i think it is politically savvy. how much it resonates with people is a big one, and he went on to say inflation is dead. some wins, some losses. jonathan: does not always seem to matter what we see on the campaign trail. lisa: i think we are all getting ready for election season, putting it behind us. jonathan: it will be fascinating. out of china, regulators are considering removing some of the country's largest restrictions on homebuying, a new proposal that would ease res

adding to it, jonathan turley.than. >> it's a very interesting development with the refusal of the alford plea. i would expect them to get the alford plea if they had pushed for this months ago. it is granted in cases. it is an exception in the sense that you need higher approval. but i actually think the reason it was turned down here is because of the timing. every indication is that the defense did not inform the prosecutors that they were going to change their plea. it was really very unusual. it is something that does not go over well with the prosecution. i'm a criminal defense attorney, and i would never have done that. even if i don't get along with the prosecution, i don't want to have this type of jump scare in the middle of the courtroom with the judge watching. i think that probably poisoned the well for the alford plea. i think that, months ago, if they had gone back to the table, they probably could have secured the alford plea as part of a global agreement. they could not have handled this case worse

i'm jonathan lemire.starting your day and week with us. we'll begin this morning with breaking news out of the middle east. the israeli military has started launching new attacks on hezbollah and lebanon. early in the night lebanon ordered an evacuation. this comes as both sides escalated their attacks. on friday israel struck an eight-story building in a densely populated area in beirut, killing several hezbollah officials, including the head of the group's operations unit. authorities in lebanon say that at least 45 people died in that strike. in retaliation they fired back. most were intercepted by the izraaly military, but at least one hit a residential neighborhood. fortunately most people evacuated the aura in time and only three people were taken to the hospital. this new barrage of attacks lead to fears of a bigger conflict as israel continues to battle hamas in the south. world leaders are urging both sides to show restraint. president biden was asked about that yesterday. >> mr. president, are y
