erroll lewis the political anchor of new york one news and jonathan allen, senior washington correspondent see both of you. jonathan, let start with you. the senate's marathon vote-a-rama, thaerz called, resulted in a budget, the first one that passed that body in four years but as democratic senator tom harkin put it to the "new york times," "we all know this will come to naught. the house will pass a budget, we will pass a budget and we will never agree on it." . why does the senate agree with the charade? >> i'm glad you used the word shar raid. in the senate, 100 votes, most of them there a member of the senate can go home and tell his folks, boy, i brought up this amendment, i'm really working hard for you or even more so that the two party committees can hammer various senators for the votes they take. that said there is one important thing that comes out of these two budgets. that is because both chambers passed a budget wet reconciliation instructions, very technical if they are able to come to a budget deal at some point with the white house filibuster proof in the senate. all the

jonathan alter, is this a problem that the republican party is having? the young people at cpac, they want to see rand paul, they wan to see allen west, they don't want to see establishment figures that the smart people in the party say they're supposed to revere. >> there's a circus party aspect to it. i remember going to cpac a couple of years ago and the same week i went to the teach for america convention. which was four times larger than cpac and got no publicity. part of it a publicity stunt for grover norquist every year. where they're headed for trouble is that rand paul is an isolationist. so we're now moving to a far right of the republican party that might be divided over very basic issues of foreign policy. >> so basically the party there are two parts of it. each of which do know exactly who they are i'll go to you, dr. geist, bass their philosophy is based on purity, what kind of purity? the neocon purity that says we're not isolationists that we want to go around the world and change the world? or is it purity that the idea of we're just about cutting spending in government? >> the internal dispute is what's telling on their publicity mac
