we just had another briefing from lieutenant jonathan baxter from the fire department.us that the initial attack of this fire was very intense. they actually thought that the fire was going to jump from pier 45 to one of the next door buildings. the fire, in fact, was so intense that as they were trying to mobilize one of their trucks, one of those trucks did in fact get a little damaged by the fire. no injuries so far. intensity o the fire itself, portions of this buildi of pier 45 did collapse, and that actually triggered a bit of a may day call from the firefighters who were around and trying to get into the building at the moment. some very difficult moments on the onset. that's one of the reasons why they called in lots of resources to back up those initial crews. right now they do believe that the fire is pretty much restricted to this building here. pier 45, they do have it restricted to this building. this entire area is literally over the water and so they are trying to make sure that it's going to not spread any further into pier 45, which has a number of buil

i want to bring in lieutenant jonathan baxter with the san francisco fire department, we understand the fire started around 4:15, tell us about how this happened? >> this fire came in this morning, it quickly grew to a four alarm fire, we have about 50 pieces of apparatus as well as about 135 firefighters that are actively fighting this fire. we are working to get the fire contained and under control. at this time, we have this isolated to the rear of pier 45, the building that is affected is building c as in charlie, later on we had flames laping over the historic jeremiah o'brien, they literally save the jeremiah o'brien during the beginning phases of the fire. our newly acquired fire boat rescue number 1 did the same thing. we are happy to say that we have no injuries at this time, we are hoping it stays like that as well. >> thank you very much, lieutenant for the latest information. that's the latest here, firefighters still cleaning up the same here. for now, back to you. >>> it's time for us to call it a morning, thank you so much for watching kpix 5 news, we will be back here to
