i'm jonathan capehart, this is the saturday show. >> congress is on memorial day recess, but negotiation teams from the white house and house republicans are hard at work trying to seal an agreement to raise the debt ceiling. all signs show that they are inching closer to a deal that would raise the limit on federal borrowing and avert and unprecedented, catastrophic default. treasury secretary janet yellen added new urgency to the negotiations, over the last few months, she has warned congress that the debt limit could be reached in early june, and potentially as early as june 1st. but yesterday afternoon, yellen's warning got more definitive. we now estimate that treasury will have insufficient resources to satisfy the governments obligations if congress has not raised or suspended the debt limit by june 5th. a deal remains elusive as both sides are still at odds over spending cuts, and work requirements for federal aid recipients. now we know definitively that they have less than nine days to get one done. joining me now, new york congressman richie torres, member of the house financi
