jon: jonathan hunt in riverside county near the cranston fire. what's the latest there, jonathan? reporter: some good news here today, jon. it does seem firefighters are very much getting the upper hand on the cranston fire. this is the kind of landscape the fires leave behind. as you look across the hillside from the charred trees, you can see part of the 13,000 acres that were scorched by the cranston fire. 1200 firefighters involved in the operation to beat back this blaze, along with 15 water-dropping helicopters, 10 fixed-wing aircraft, and they now have something like a third of this fire contained. in other words, they have got a scratch line around it. they believe they will have it fully contained within the next ten days. the good news here is that not a single home that we are aware of was actually torched, and that is very much thanks to the efforts of those firefighters. many of them were leaving the command center today, jon, and heading out. that is a sure sign that they think they have won this particular battle for now, at least. jon? jon: so they've won that one

jonathan hunt is monitoring the latest developments out of our los angeles barrel, good evening, jonathanare getting some good news from the governor of durango state in northern mexico and that is confirmation from him that they believe at this point there are no deaths as a result of this plane crash. this was mexico flight 20 4:30 4:30 -- took off from durango in the north of mexico headed for mexico city. took off at just after 3:00 p.m. local time there. that's 4:00 p.m. eastern and apparently according to the transport department fell upon takeoff. we have seen photos on twitter of the plane lying on its belly, but relatively intact. although there was smoke billowing from it and emergency services on the ground dealing with what appeared to be a relatively large fire in the pictures we have seen. also we have seen photographs of some of the full crew that were on board with 97 passengers walking away from the wreckage, another sign that this accident was perhaps not as bad as eck first feared. so the breaking news as we understand it from the governor of the northern state of duran

jonathan hunt is live on the border in israel to tell us more about this.we're on the golan heights looking into syria from the israeli side of the border. it is an increasingly desperate and potentially dangerous situation. 160,000 refugees have fled the fighting in southwestern syria in just the last few days. look at this tent encampment just across the border into syria. a couple hundred yards from the border some 5,000 or so i would estimate refugees have come here looking for safety, looking for shelter. the israeli government is sending aid in the form of tents and medical supplies and food. as we zoom in here you can see what is a syrian rebel checkpoint at the heart of this. the seven-year ongoing civil war between the syrian government and those rebels. the main fighting is taking place right now some 30 miles from where we're standing in and around the city of dura. the refugees have fled that fiengt and come here. the israeli government says there is no way they will be allowed to cross this border at any point. so you ask the question, why do t

jonathan hunt has been following the story for us. he is live from jerusalem this morning. ly did israel hit? >> sandra, three strikes in all but they appeared designed to send a symbolic message rather than designed to inflict any real damage or indeed casualties on the syrian armed forces. the israeli hit small syrian military outposts. no word of casualties. each of those outposts was destroyed completely as far as we can tell. the message was from israel to syria, we'll respond to anything we see as a provocation. that provocation in israel's mind came yesterday when a drone was launched from syria and flew across the israeli/syrian border, came about six miles into israel before an israeli patriot defense missile was launched, hit the drone, brought it down and it landed on the shores of the -- the southern shores of the sea of galilee. what you have with the israeli strike that followed the drone being brought down was a symbolic message, syria, if you provoke us in any kind of way, we can and will respond. this was a minor attack but a very symbolic one. >> sandra: al
