let's bring in white house reporter for the associated press, jonathan lemire. msnbc contributor mike barnicle and host of "way too early," kasie hunt is book with us this morning. she never sleeps. >> never sleeps. so jonathan lemire, talk about what you're hearing from the white house off the record. what you're hearing from the biden campaign off the record. i think our notes pretty much match up, but what are you hearing? >> well, first, let's underscore that the county in georgia that put joe biden ahead, clayton county, that's john lewis' old county. we should mention that. the president of the united states took to the podium of the white house behind the presidential seal last night and one that's shattered every norm of the office, he went out there and urged the vote -- the very pillar of american democracy to stop being counted. he trolled in unsubstantiated theories and conspiracy theories and made baseless accusations of fraud. undermining the very integrity of the ballot. there's seemingly to this point little teeth and no evidence to his claims. s

s jonathan lemire still with us as well. talking a allegations of election fraud.ficials in states across the country report to the "new york times," no evidence of widespread voter fraud. the "times" reached out to top election officials in every state to ask whether they suspected or had evidence of illegal voting. heard back from 45 states and none -- none -- reported any major voting issues. four other states where they didn't hear back from the top official, the paper spoke with other statewide officials or found public comments from secretaries of state. it found none of those reported any major voting issues. that's all 50 states. meanwhile, according to the "wall street journal," a team of international observers invited by the trump administration issued a preliminary report that praised state and local officials for efforts to facilitate voting during the pandemic and found no evidence of the pervasive fraud that president trump has insisted caused his loss to president-elect joe biden. so, jim messina, if you read through this exhaustive piece from the "

so it is still from everything i'm hearing, it is still a jump ball, jonathan lemire. what are you hearing? >> i spoke to a senior biden person on friday who at that moment was really worried about florida. seeing a real softness in miami-dade in particular and saw a surge in republican voting and perhaps felt like florida is slipping out of reach, but now that changed over the weekend. there's some hope that the republicans who cannibalized the day of vote, that they have already voted this past week after the president's series of campaign rallies where he was urging people to turn out. as you said, we can't overstate the importance of these independents. certainly, election wide the trend has -- the independents have broken for joe biden. will that happen on tuesday in florida, we shall see. but that's something that the biden campaign has grown hopeful about. the trump side, they feel it's indeed close. they know of course that they have no path without it. and as a final point, joe, after -- i have completed this dog silhouette. my next one is of meatball the cat.

jonathan lemire, what are you hearing from the white house? >> silence, willie. we've reached out to the white house and the trump campaign. there's been no public comment to this point. nothing this morning since joe biden took the lead in pennsylvania. we last heard from the president himself on twitter at 2:23 a.m. when he complained about social med media, on social media. there's been nothing from him this morning. no sign he's come down to the oval office. typically the president doesn't usually come down until much later in the morning than right now. now certainly, as of last night, there was no sense that the trump campaign was going to abandon their legal challenges, even though they've had little to no success so far. there's certainly no sign that the president was going to go quietly here, that he would concede even after perhaps networks make the call and obviously none have at this point as the votes are still coming in. we'll be staying on them all day to see what they want to do, but there will be a lot of eyes watching the president and watching

jonathan lemire is telling us there's a washing over of where this is heading. the president continues to tweet false assertion about what's happening with the votes in certain states quickly shot down by secretaries of state, for example in arizona and in pennsylvania. what is the mood from inside the oval office and the inner circle of president trump? >> there are really two schools of thought and one is growing by the hour. the first is there is this fighting spirit where people want to get behind president trump's false claims, write they're almost making a hit list of republicans to target who are wanting to back up the president even though he has absolutely no evidence, has been delivering some of his most dishonest statements to date, and has been living in an ultimate realts. the other school of thought that's growing by the hour, people are feeling based on my reporting, deflated, feeling this is a white house that is unwinding, this is a president becoming more and more unhinged. even people wanting to see the president re-elected, they're worried ab
