i'm jonathan lemire. thanks for starting your day with us. a federal judge has appointed a special master, or third party, to review the documents that the fbi seized from former president donald trump's mar-a-lago home and club in palm beach, florida. judge cannon named raymond deery as the special master. he is a senior u.s. district judge for the eastern district of new york. trump's attorney's proposed him and the other side submitted they're professional. judge cannon specifically laid out the special masters duties including a privileged review of the documents. meaning he must determine if any of the documents are protected by attorney-client, or executive privilege. he will also check them against the property inventory, along with making recommendations about personal items, documents and presidential records that might be under dispute between the two parties. judge cannon also stated that the special master just evaluate any claims about the return of property. dearie has until november 30th to review the materials. at the same tim

i'm jonathan lemire. thanks for starting your holiday with us. we now have a clearer account of what the fbi seized from former president donald trump's mar-a-lago home in palm beach, florida, after a federal judge unsealed a more detailed inventory list of items on friday. in addition to the troves of information marked top secret, secret and classified, the fbi search turned up more than 40 empty folders with classified banners on them. but it is unclear what happened to the information that had been inside those folders. they also found almost four dozen empty folders marked return to staff secretory, military aid. the search turned up 11,000 u.s. government documents and photographs without classification markings. they were found mixed in with classified material in boxes and containers in trump's office and a storage room. it's important to note, seven documents marked top secret were found in trump's office, as well as 17 documents marked secret, and three were marked confidential. that's significa

joining me now is ken dilanian, jonathan lemire and blayne alexander on the ground in georgia. p in the last 24 hours saying doj and fbi have been in his words, caught, and it takes guts to fight them. this is old hat for him. he has been doing this for several years. he is trying to weaponize this to his advantage. what impact is this having with those non-maga republicans and independents? >> the former president not chained to the facts in his responses to what happened over the weekend. doj is frustrated by this federal judge saying the special master could be appointed and stopping the probe in the interim. this will slow things down. although, some people close to the process note that it was unlikely that if charges were ever to be brought against the former president, it wouldn't happen before election day anyway. even trump not on the ballot, he is a dominant figure in the republican party. a charge would be seen as political. there's that. in terms of the former president, people around him are treating this as a bit of a victory. they know they have a long way to go.
