jonathan moore is live with how much food is needed to feed all the troops. >> reporter: 10 years an 25 days since the first american troops arrived there. the defense department is serving more than 8,000 20 pounds turkeys. also on the menu 37,000 pounds of stuffing, 43,000 pounds of sweet potatoes, and for desert 24,560 pies. >> it's the first afghan thanksgiving? >> yes this is my first deployment. >> last? >> no, probably not. >> the united states, i can't wait to get back. i love everybody, everybody. >> reporter: soldiers at camp victory had to serve thanksgiving a few days early. the dining facility on the base closed down earlier this week as u.s. forces prepared to leave the country. and a hungry crowd also lined up for a holiday meal at camp virginia kuwait. >> how many people are you anticipating? >> roughly about 6,400. >> in how much time? >> about 3.5 hours. >> what's on the menu? >> turkey and all the trimmings. >> desert? >> pie and cakes and all types of goodies. >> reporter: but the best news for these troops, many found out they will be home on time for christmas.
