father jonathan morris is a catholic priest and fox news be contributor.>> hey, alisyn, good to be with you. >> alisyn: if the conclave starts on tuesday, when did you and other vatican watchers think we will have a new pope? >> well, if we think about the last conclave, which is a very short conclave, it was just four ballots, two ballots in the morning and two in the afternoon so it was pretty quick. pretty quick. remember, when start in the afternoon on the first day so in the the last conclave, 2005, the election of ratzinger, there were two ballots in the morning and two in the afternoon and he was elected. it was a fast conclave. i would say most people now, based on the situation, it won't be quite so fast. you never know. remember the cardinals, 115 cardinals are throwing out their ballots in the very, very beginning and seeing, really, who are those cardinals who have the most support. then, without much debate, they go right into the next ballot. and then, they say, you know, i voted for somebody who only got one vote, well, i'm going to throw my

father jonathan morris is a fox news contributor, he joins us on the phone.talk to you, father morris, and as we watch the beginning of this conclave, your thoughts today? >> well, rick, and jenna lee, it's good to be talking with you. a lot of mixed emotions. i guess the biggest emotion for me was being with cardinal dolan this morning, very early in the morning, 6:45 as he's packing his bag and getting ready to leave. and, you know, just knowing that without, certainly, him looking for amazingly in the last week or two the winds have definitely been pushing if in the direction of -- in the direction of the only of an american candidate as pope. and it was moving just to watch. and, um, i would never normally do this, but i said to him, you know, let me just take a picture with you now just in case. and we took a picture. and then we walked down, and he put his suitcase in the box, and they went away, the more than cardinals from the north american college down the hill to the vatican where they entered into the residence which i'm just standing just outside

father jonathan morris is with me.hose would signal the church is going to take on new ways? >> it would. the taxi drivers would be very happy because there would be lots of people here in rome. it would be such a shift. but, yes, it would be a big change because they are coming in from the outside. cardinal dolan here for six years. but at the same times americans have dealt with the sex abuse scandal, for example, in a way that a lot of other countries have not yet. and they would come in, they would be looking for transparency, looking for taking on some of the corruption that's been in the roman church. it would be a big shift. >> the other side of this equation is that there might be someone more closelied closely tied and cardinal sheerer of brazil might be the one. it is unusual to think of someone from brazil as an insider but he is. >> he worked for many years within a major department here in the vatican. and the way the vatican, the expert journalist talked about it, he has so many friendships and relationsh
