jonathan vigliotti joins us from paris. what can you tell us about the multiple rates in the possible mastermind behind the attack max>> reporter: -- attacks? >> reporter: yes we want to focus in -- on the one in lyon were five people were arrested. inside the home they discovered three assault rifles, a lot of effort -- ammunition and a rocket launcher. in all we are told that 23 people were taken into custody and the number stands at about 100 for that are under house arrest. as you can imagine a a lot of concern out about what seems to be a growing terror network. the mastermind in all of this, abdelhamid abaaoud named by police. he is 27 years old, born in morocco and we are told he spent at least a year training with isis in syria before making his way back here to friends. he was connected to several foiled attacks, including an alleged bombing of a train. he remains at large today. >>> and we understand french military started attacks against isis targets, right? >> that's correct. several raids overnight focusing in

we go live now to jonathan vigliotti in saint-denis and jonathan, what led officials to the apartment? >> reporter: good morning to both of you. police say that they used a combination of text messages, intel and eyewitness accounts to bring them to this exact location. about 3 blocks away from where we're standing now is where at 4:00 our time police honda in and conducted that raid. there were explosions and a barrage of bullets. two people were killed. a female suicide bomber who blew herself up and a man who was killed by a sniper. seven additional people were taken into custody. five men found inside of that apartment and two people a man and a woman who were found outside, all brought into custody. at this point, their identities still unclear. we also know that police were hoping to find inside abdelhamid abaaoud. he is the mastermind behind these attacks, the believed mastermind. up until today, the belief was at least according to intelligence officials that he was in syria. what's changed? enough information for officials to focus in on the apartment here in saint-denis. >>
