chuck todd, moderator of "meet the press," joins us from the road where he is on the way to jonesboro, arkansas, to talk to senator pryor. perdue and nunn, very careful answers for you yesterday. what are your takeaways after talking to both the candidates? >> they were careful answers and they have different reasons to be. i think there's this anger at washington. they both want to take advantage of it. i heard you asking which democrat is handled, sort of distancing themselves in the south best from president obama. in many ways, you'd have to say michelle nunn. simply because she's got a last name that allowed her to talk to older georgia voters and say you know sam nunn, you know what a nunn democrat is. so david perdue who has been trying to use president obama against michelle nunn, the same way we've seen it with cotton in arkansas or even tillis in north carolina. it hasn't worked as well. now, part of that is, again, i think the fact that both of them are not of washington, both of them don't have voting records. it is why they both are so close to winning. it's why david per

children today in jonesboro and russelville, they are competing with children in china, and mexico. superioro have that education to train our workforce, to get people ready to compete in the global economy. isthe fact of the matter mark pryor does support a federal curriculum. it is called the common core as implemented by the department of federal education. barack obama and posted on the state. you do not get the money if you do not use common core. mark pryor went along with it and we have teachers who are frustrated that they do not know how to teach their students. parents are frustrated because they cannot help their children do homework and i. -- dore struggling homework at night. they are struggling already, often needing to go. i don't think we need mark pryor telling what curriculum should be. >> again, education is very important and one reason congressman cotton is putting up this big smokescreen about education is he is trying to take your eye off the ball because he has voted to cut education. those are his votes in the house. he has voted to cut education, and you as

interesting you brought up the early vote, i was with mark pryor an hour or so ago in jonesboro and that whole pitch to folks about voting early, going through the specific numbers. oh, in pjonesboro, it's up here. they made a concerted effort. it's sort of a symbol of why democrats are still in the game. they basically, if you look at this like a -- you and i are florida folks, look at it like a hurricane. in 2010 democrats didn't have any hurricane shutters. in 2014 they have some real hurricane shutters they put in. they with canstand a form of a category 1 or category 2. maybe too much. maybe it isn't going to -- maybe it's too much for mark pryor to survive in a state like arkansas that's so conservative these days. but they're definitely more prepared. you see the turnout gain actually being implemented. it's why things haven't broken in the polls the republican way soth some people thought so. >> because of that florida experience, i feel like a lot of these races turn on the quality of the campaign operations of these state parties. the state parties vary in quality. but you have

harvard graduate and iraq war veteran thanking phone bank workers in jonesboro, arkansas on other sidef the state. pryor camp despite the lead that pryor will be ultimately prevailed. while not letting his guard down, he doesn't seem to worried about that prospect. >> we're not concerned. voters make an assessment of senator pryor's record and my plan to move arkansas again. senator pryor's record is not good for arkansas and it is lockstep support for president obama's agenda which is not good for arkansas. >> reporter: if elected he will be youngest member of the senate at 36 years old. bill: what about charges by pryor that cotton is too conservative for arkansas? >> reporter: that is one of the main points of attack leveling at tom cotton. pointing out he is only member of the arkansas delegation that voted against the farm bill which is very, very important piece of legislation for this state. i asked cotton about that last night. he told me that despite those charges he said he is willing to work with anyone, across the aisle, republican or democrat to do what is best for arkansa
