my name is officer jonna watson. i'm one of the public information officers for the oakland police department. we'd like to update you this morning regarding this tragic fire. currently, we have with us sergeant kelly from the alameda county sheriffs office, as well as battalion fire chief melinda drayton. i'm going to right now turn it over to fire chief battalion to discuss with you some of the logistics that have occurred during last night. >> good morning everybody. my name is melinda drayton. melin-e-l-i-n-d- m-e-l-i-n-d-a, drayt-r-a-y-t-o- battalion fire chief for oakland fire. i took over at approximately 9:00 to start our night off operational period which lasted 12 hours ending at 9:00 this morning. our goal was to work collaboratively with public works to breach the b 5, would be the left side of the warehouse building, the fire building in order to gain access for our firefighters and alameda county sheriffs to be able to remove debris systematically from the building, the vacant lot next to the building,

my name is officer jonna watson, public information officer for the oakland police department. we'd like to update you. we're coming off the weekend. not everyone has information about what has transpired since last friday. december 2nd, at about 11:32 p.m., a fire broke out in the 1,300-block of 31st avenue here in oakland. last evening, the victim lost was 33. 33 families who have lost a loved one, that's 33 of our loved ones who, here in the city of oakland, we have lost as a community. this morning we'd like to update you regarding additional information regarding our losses, not only to families, but to our community. we have deputy sheriff modest, who is going to provide additional information regarding the victims' loss and families that have been notified. we also have battalion chief draton who will be able to update you regarding the work that fire department has done along with other agencies who have been assisting. i'd like to turn it over to deputy modest. >> good morning. i'm ty modest, spokesperson for the alameda county sheriff's office. since our last update,

there's jonna watson from the oakland police department getting ready to address the media with new information about the deadly oakland warehouse fire. 36 people confirmed dead, 33 identified so far. 75%, they've gone through the debris of the building. they had to stop yesterday to see if it was structural safe for the firefighters to continue. they deemed that it was. pg&e brought in a crane to assist with some of the equipment that they had to move around from the site as well. painstaking labor for these firefighters. not only that, but emotional as well. >> the emotional process, the long shifts they've been working. laura, when you talk about 75% of the warehouse being searched so far, one area that has not been that we heard from melinda drayton from oakland fire was the area where they believe the fire started by the center back of the building. the atf corded that area off. let's listen in. >> i want to make sure everyone can hear us. we're going to go ahead and get started. thank you for joining us. my name is officer johnna watson, one of the public information officers for the oakl
